Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson in The Hustle (2019)

Goofs

The Hustle

Edit

Continuity

Penny has her mouth open, tongue in then out in the next shot when speaking with Josephine at 42'36".
Josephine is facing Thomas then turned to her left side in the next shot during the last scene at 1:25'50".
Josephine is too far away from her pet lizard to be able to reach it and carry it in the next shot when Penny is leaving at 41'15".
The newspaper (Le Monde) held by Thomas goes from unfolded to folded in the next shot at 1:16:41".
Thomas's vest is unbuttoned, he tightens it with both hands but could not have had time to button it and yet, it is buttoned in the next shot when speaking to the two con-artists during the last scene at 1:25'50".

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

The casino setting for Josephine's first con is La Casino Beaumont (per the table at which her mark is seen playing). She is also "arrested" by Beaumont Sur Mer police. Then, she is seen on the train with Penny, both en route to Beaumont Sur Mer. Although a fictional setting, BSM is not portrayed as a large city where trains would be needed to access other parts of town.

This is not a plot hole, Josephine wasn't traveling between parts of the same town. When Josephine is leaving the casino, she says she's off to meet the buyer in *Zürich*. The movie then simply skips her trip to Zürich (because it's not important to the story anyway) and cuts to Josephine on her return journey from Zürich, specifically on the train (supposedly after a layover in Nice) *back to* Beaumont-sur-Mer.

Revealing mistakes

The cut of the French fries piece of potato held by Josephine changes between cuts (especially before and after the toilet make-over).
Inspecteur Desjardins, supposedly French, speaks French with a heavy accent.
Josephine slightly leans forward in anticipation for Penny's hug when she should have jerked backwards, revealing that it was scripted.

Plot holes

In the beginning of the film, Josephine sets up a scam where she switches a fake bracelet for the one her mark is trying to sell her. This means they not only had to know which piece of jewelry he would try to sell that night, but also had to have access to it in order to recreate it well enough for 'only an expert' to know it was a fake (or his wife).

Character error

When Josephine is scamming Howard Bacon, she mentions she is 63rd in line to the Throne. This is inconsistent when she then introduces Penny as her only living relative.
"Inspecteur Desjardins", supposedly French, tells Josephine "Vas-y" (go) instead of a more idiomatic "Allez, avancez" (come on, go ahead).
