Jack Horton is engaged to a pretty girl. Editha, but despite this fact he neglects her for the companionship of a dissolute, Bohemian crowd. At last she sends him a note of protest, to which he replies with a brutal letter stating that if she wishes to break the engagement she may do so. When her father sees this note he demands that she give him up, but she says she would rather die. As Jack is lying in bed one morning after a night of dissipation, he receives a note from Editha enclosing a white rose, and telling him that he will find a drop of blood from her dying heart in the depths of the flower. He rushes to her home to learn that she has made an attempt on her life and is in the hospital in a dying condition. He arrives at the hospital and there vows that if her life is spared he will end his evil ways. The doctor assures him that the girl will live.
