Song of... is passive punk schlock.
Avant garde superstar Jonas Mekas abrasive ballad to Central Park spends much of its time outside of it as he slashes and mashes imagery with his cutting knife, muttering insipid narration. It does have its provocative moments but is mostly an irritating watch. The Central Park scenes may well have been shot by a squirrel who ran off with his Bolex while exterior shots of a wintery New York and a fascination with a newspaper stand dealer fail to elevate this incoherent anti-movie claiming to be a melody to the pastoral but chooses to die instead on a slushy New York City street corner.
