This was an episode of National Geographic Explorer that I caught on Netflix. The program looks at what constitutes death, gives information about cell death, oxygen deprivation, coma, and goes into near death experiences. For NDE, the show examined scientific theories for the core experience, and we heard from people who had experienced an NDE.
Since this program was made in 2008, there has been more information forthcoming in the form of books by people, including a couple of doctors, who have had NDE. It has been shown that while people's brains were actually flatlining, they had some remarkable experiences even though they had no brain activity.
This show also went into a topic timely today, brain death and being kept "alive" by ventilator, and the difference between brain death and a vegetative state where there is brain activity.
It presents both the scientific and spiritual outlooks; I thought it was good and would love to see an updated version showing new information.
