Vivian Pickles here has the focal role of Mary Queen of Scots, having cameoed as that rival of Queen Elizabeth ( Glenda Jackson) in The Marriage Game (1971). Pickles had recently had one of her few cinematic roles supporting Glenda Jackson in Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971). Jackson would soon encore as Queen Elizabeth in Mary, Queen of Scots (1971) which starred in the title role Vanessa Redgrave. Besides the Scottish queen Mary, Pickles and Redgrave share a common role in Isadora Duncan, that flamboyant dancer having been portrayed by Pickles in Isadora (1966) and by Redgrave in Isadora (1968).
