Competition. Some say it's more fun trying to win than actually winning. But there are some who take the need to win far too seriously and will stop at nothing to outshine their competitors. Such is the situation with Jane and Mrs. Spacely entering the garden club contest. Jane wants to defeat the rich bitch, and feels she has the means to do it with her plant, having grown it through tender loving care. Sadly, it meets its demise when Elroy and Astro play ball in the house. She quickly puts it on life support, but alas, it wasn't long before the poor flowers go to that big greenhouse in the sky. As the Jetsons mourn their loss, Mrs. Spacely cuts in to gloat about her entry and the prizes she's won over the years. En route to work, George discovers a neighborhood florist and decides to try and replace Jane's plant. This shop's got it all: Venus fly traps with flies included, and a Martian creeper that moonlights as a pickpocket. George chooses the latter, even though it just robbed him. Now, in addition to this garden show featuring Mrs. Spacely and Jane competing, George is also singing as a member of a space barbershop quartet. He can't seem to take a hint that he hits the high note too high, as all the broken glassware around him has proved.
The Martian Creeper soon arrives and it seems like a shoe-in. But what nobody seems to notice is that thing's got a heck of a reach, spilling a pot of soup and letting Judy take the blame. Eating Judy's notebook and letting Elroy take the blame. ("What would I do with your notebook? Fail?" Lol. Good snap, Elroy). It bitch-slaps Astro and pulls Rosie's fuse. But hey, who cares? It's gonna win first prize, right? In order to recover from these events, George goes to sing in the shower, with predictable results. And for the first time ever in the series, we get a shot of George's ass. Just what the world was waiting for. Cover your eyes, kids; So the Creeper continues its mayhem, harassing George in the shower, and stringing up the kids. Finally realizing this plant was bad news, they try to return to the florist, and wouldn't you know it, he's out of business. So, they leave it at the dump, only to find that it somehow beat them home. When Mr. Spacely hears of this extraordinary plant, he wants it. Since the Jetsons are unwilling to give it up, for some reason, and so he resorts to stealing it. Or rather, he sends his son Arthur to do it...that scum-wad! So they successfully nab the Creeper, which proves homicidal as it tries to strangle Spacely to death. Hooray! But, it turns out that odd pod likes George's singing, so his off-key harmonizing releases Spacely, who orders George to get rid of the thing. So he flies to Mars and just dumps it like trash. That'll be the last we'll see of that thing, I'm sure. Fat chance. George's barbershop quartet attracts the jolly long giant, which allows Jane to nab first prize...a glass trophy. And so, the Creeper gives Spacely what-for, and George's high-note shatters Jane's trophy. George simply shrugs and says, "I guess that trophy wasn't all it's cracked up to be." Ah ha ha ha ha...not funny! And so, I guess the Creeper died off and George promised never to sing again.
This one was OKAY. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't particularly good either. I guess it would have been better without Spacely and his ever-growing quest to fire George. It's an obsession with him. What kind of employer would obsess over firing somebody so much? It's psychotic! It's makes Mr. Spacely seem even more unbearable and you just wish he wasn't around so much. So looking passed Mr. Spacely, this story had an interesting concept that played sort of like a horror movie. The shot of George's bare ass was somewhat unnecessary. "The Odd Pod" is okay, but very inferior to what has come before it. In fact, all of Season 3 seems inferior, as if they just quit trying. But these episodes were produced 2 years after Season 2 ended, so one would have to wonder why they brought the show back again a second time if they were only going to introduce mediocre stories with recycled plots and jokes? $$$$ I guess.
