The bombing of Guernica (26 April 1937) was carried out by two German Heinkel He 111s, one Dornier Do 17, eighteen Junkers Ju 52 Behelfsbomber, and three Italian Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 aircraft. Each of these aircraft were single wing medium bombers. The aircraft type depicted in the film is a twin wing (biplane) , possibly a German Bücker Bü 131 "Jungmann" (Young man) which was a 1930s basic training aircraft.
The Catholic priest who aids the mother during the bombing of Guernica is wearing his biretta (small black cap) incorrectly. The biretta has three peaks, with the "peak-less" corner worn on the left side of the head. The priest in the film wears his biretta with the non-vertical peak side to the rear.
