At the beginning of the film, when Temple is getting out of the airplane, the propeller nearest her is spinning, which is very noticeable as it makes a "whoosh" sound every time it passes in front of the camera. As the camera angle changes, the propeller is suddenly completely still.
In the movie Temple's squeeze machine is thrown away but in reality it was put into storage.
When Temple can't figure out how to do the Ames room illusion Carlock tells her to think of every aspect of the room. In reality he let her look at a picture in a book for 15 seconds and then she figured it out.
In the movie Carlock has Temple build an Ames room illusion but in reality it was her psychology teacher Mr. Burns.
It is stated that Temple didn't speak till she was 4. In reality, she didn't speak till she was 3 ½ years old.
The movie shows Temple going to her aunt's ranch for the first time in 1966 but in reality she first went when she was 16 (1963).
Temple is shown watching a movie on TV and uses a remote control. This was while she was in grad school, early to mid 1970s. Regular home TV remotes were not available until late 1980s. (There were TV remote controls as early as the 60's, but they emitted ultrasonic tones. Commonly called a "clicker". Temple is shown using a clicker.)
At the pediatrician's office when Temple is four, her mother claims to be a Harvard graduate. This scene would have taken place in 1952. Although some women attended classes at Harvard as Radcliffe students, they were not given degrees from Harvard until 1963.
At Temple's boarding school we see Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs on campus. This breed was not brought to the United States until the mid-1980's.
When Temple's aunt and mother are talking on the phone, in 1966, the hand sets have a RJ11 connector. These type of connectors did not come about until the mid 1970s, and didn't get wider use until the 1980s.
The small rocket that Professor Carlock, the science teacher, launches to celebrate Temple Grandin's success with the "perspective" room is a model of the "Little Joe II" which in 1962 was in the fabrication stage. The details needed would not have been available for modeling. The little Joe II's first test flight wasn't for another year still. Also, the size and configuration of the model rocket and its motor are too advanced for that time period. It wouldn't be until 1970 that a model of that size would be viable.
In 1966 Aunt Ann drives Temple from the airport back to the ranch in a 1959 Chevrolet Task-Force Apache, according to IMCDB. While from the 2010 production date of the film the 1959 truck would be considered an antique, it would only have been seven years old and its paint would not have been worn down to bare steel in so short a time in Arizona with its low rainfall and relative humidity.
Temple's roommate reads the braille label on her Abacus book in the wrong direction.
William Carlock was Mr., not Dr. Carlock.
In the scene before the opening credits Temple's eyes are blue but throughout the rest of the film they are green.
