Wow! Oscar worthy.

Unlike other films which try to use brutality and ignorance as a social conscience raising vehicle by beating you over the head, this film touches on issues of race, poverty, and human kindness in a very subtle manner. Told through the adventure of a small child, it has a wonderful twist at the end that will make your heart feel warm. One of my own films has been in several film festivals competing against "His Good Will" and I honestly didn't stand a chance. In fact this short film has forced me to find out if it is entered in a festival before I waste my entry fees because it has won every time I'm up against it. It has blown nearly all other short films out of the water. It even garnered acceptance in the Official Academy Award Short Film category. Not to mention that IMDb has recommended other films "like it". 'In the Heat of the Night' (5 Oscars) 'To Kill a Mocking Bird.'(3 Oscars) and now 'Precious' which will certainly win some Oscars. I will continue to make movies because it is what I've been doing for over 30 years but I can only aspire to make the kind of films this young director Cayman Grant makes. My hat is off to her. Whatever you do, find this film and see it. It will truly touch your heart.

Bad attempt at a heart wrenching short-film.

Warning: Spoilers
I unfortunately saw this short-film at an Independent film festival. This was a cheap attempt to jab at people's emotions using, racism, children, and poverty. Set in the 50's, a young boy is seen walking around town collecting empty bottles to sell. Upon selling the bottles and gaining some money, he stops at a diner to eat. Not having enough money for a larger portion of food, and being able to tip the waitress, he buys the smaller food and leaves the waitress a tip, even though she is very rude to the boy. Upon which she is touched. This story has been used many times. It wasn't sad the first time, it isn't sad the 50th time over. This was a cheap attempt to get the director's name out without actually having any skill at all. I give this short-film a 1/10 because it had no-thought or talent put into it. I wouldn't have rated it so low if it had some originality, but this wasn't the case.
