Don't re-open the theater, Carly!
Chartreuse14 March 2023
Carly's grandpa passes away and he leaves all of his worldly possessions to her including a rundown theater than used to show classic movies that people enjoyed when he was alive. But her lawyer encourages her to sell the theater to a cut-throat real estate outfit that buys distressed properties. Carly will not sell because he left it to HER and a ton of cash to pay off his debts on it and she wants to honor his memory. So, she ends up hiring a hot handyman named Blake to help her fix it up but those wanting her to sell aren't giving up easily and start scaring her. Carly's ex, Sam, is also slouching around, too, looking for a handout to pay off some bad people since he knows about the inheritance. He threatens Carly and Blake tells him to back off. But Sam ends up dead and the police think Blake did it and arrests him. You'll have to tune in to see what happens next. Sarah Fisher stars as Carly and she's become a Lifetime regular. Good Friday night movie with an interesting plot! Recommended!!!

What a disappointment

I was so looking forward to seeing a new Sarah Fisher movie but, like the theater in the film, this movie just doesn't sell. The story line was just too ridiculous. And too many of the characters were soooo flawed. A real estate 'gang' that will stop at nothing to get the properties they want (although, as yet, they have acquired no properties whatsoever.) The sad part is that their 'enforcer' (Jimmy) must have come from the gang that couldn't shoot straight. He bungled everything he tried.

And Blake was such a smart-mouthed punk that you end up hoping he was evil so he would get his come-uppence in the end.

There was no suspense in this movie and, had I looked at it as a comedy, I might have given it a 6. As it is, it gets a 2 (only because it had Sarah Fisher in it) and Sarah is at the point of her career that she should have better scripts from which to choose. Not worth a watch.

Hallmark Style Film

Warning: Spoilers
Carly Elizabeth Duval was raised as a little orphan by her kind grandfather. Now as an adult living in the Bronx, Carly is returning home to the Sooner state to settle her grandfather's will. Upon her homecoming, she discovers that she has inherited the dilapidated Ritz Theatre and makes the decision to refurbish it to honor the memory of her grandfather.

For two-thirds of the film, the action played out like a Hallmark film. In the quaint Oklahoma town, Carly links up with her friend Marina. She also meets a nice young man named Blake. Working together, Carly, Marina, and Blake will restore the grand old theatre.

In the home stretch of the film, there was some violence, a murder, and an obstacle that threatens the re-opening of the theatre. Some greedy developers will stop at nothing to purchase the theatre. Carly's life is threatened, Marina is shot, and Blake lands in prison!

Of course, there will be a happy resolution for a character as endearing as Carly Elizabeth Duval. There was nice chemistry between Carly and Blake, as well as a slew of interesting characters, such as the spirited motel manager Tammy; Diane, the waitress at the Karma diner; Carly's deeply troubled ex named Sam with a gambling problem; and the sleazy realtor Jimmy Malloy, who was Carly's classmate from high school.

It was refreshing to watch a film with a minimal amount of violence and a good-natured, decent protagonist like Carly. And the inspired choice for the first film classic to re-open the Ritz Theatre: "Casablanca"!!!
