A British soldier tells Elizabeth not to go into the basement of the Ritz, warning her that they were playing American music from the "ghetto in Harlem". To a Brit in 1945, the word ghetto would have referred to a Jewish enclave of a city. The word had not yet acquired its meaning of a black neighborhood in the US until the 1950s/1960s.
