The first Nigerian film to receive cooperation from the Nigerian military. The government supplied some of the vehicles and military equipment used in the film.
Filming took place over 98 days.
The production ran out of money, and the cast and crew worked without food on some shooting days because there was no money to pay the local welfare woman (caterer).
The film's military advisor, Umaru "Buffalo" Audu, had served in the Nigerian army and had been sent to Liberia during the war depicted in the film. The film incorporates many of his experiences during the war. Audu had also shot many hours of video during the war on his own, and this footage was also used as research material for this film.
Much of the gun shot effects in the film is actually firecrackers. Local children from the Enugu area were recruited to stand behind the camera crew during battle scenes and light firecrackers.
