'Voir dire' is a legal term of art referring (in the United States) to the process by which prospective jurors are interviewed to determine whether they're prejudiced or otherwise unfit to try a case. 'Voir dire' can also apply to the process of interviewing witnesses to evaluate their suitability to testify.
