Warning: Spoilers
The war is over in Italy but Le Luca is in more danger than ever; after escaping from a shootout at a partisan roadblock he finds himself with somebody who recognises him. Luckily this person, Guido; a member of the partisan police, needs DeLuca's help and promises that if he helps solve the murder of a popular local man he will let him go free. Guido has no obvious suspects and even speculates that the killer may be one of the escaping fascists but De Luca believes the killer knew his victim. It won't be an easy investigation as most of the suspects were partisans and if any of them find out who he is he knows they will be less understanding than Guido. While investigating he learns that there was a second murder; a collaborator was killed a couple of nights earlier and while nobody cares who killed him his death is almost certainly linked to the other man's murder. Away from the investigation De Luca gets close to Francesca; one of the local girls who has previously been involved with a German soldier.

I think this is the best episode yet; the mystery was interesting with plenty of suspects but more importantly there was a real sense of danger as we knew De Luca could be identified at any time. Alessandro Preziosi continues to do well as the eponymous Inspector De Luca, Stefano Pesce was good as his unlikely friend Guido and Ana Caterina Morariu stood out as the crop-haired Francesca; a delightfully feisty character. The mystery was solved it a satisfactory way… the killer wasn't overly obvious yet it all made sense when it was revealed. There was also a twist that I didn't see coming after the murder was solved; this too was satisfying and didn't feel tacked on. Overall a fine episode; I look forward to seeing how this all too short series ends.
