- A body is discovered in an outhouse. The victim is a host of show that exposes men's infidelities. Booth learns about Bones's dating situation.
- The relatively new corpse found in the contents of an accidentally exploded outhouse is identified as Bill O'Rourke, star of a TV show that publicly exposes adulterous spouses, which provides a list of suspects with strong motives. Booth even enlists a stalker to tail Jim Dodd, who best fits the profile according to Sweets. Furthermore, studio politics and love life provide further suspects. Booth's doubts about Bones's polyandry with a man for sex and another for conversation prove founded. Lance gets a crush on overzealous forensic showoff-apprentice Daisy Wick.—KGF Vissers
- A trucker pulls up to an outhouse and steps inside -- only to be hurled 20 feet in the air when the structure explodes, and he becomes the next case for the team.
Booth (David Boreanaz) knocks on the door to Brennan's loft apartment at 6:30 a.m., compliments the forensic anthropologist on her "bed head" and then greets a naked man who emerges from the bedroom.
"A little chilly there, Mark?" Booth quips.
As the partners head to the scene of the explosion, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) explains her relationship with Mark (Brennan Elliott) is purely physical. Booth insists a relationship needs more than sex.
They arrive at the scene. "If the victim is alive, then why are we here?" Brennan asks. Good question. Perhaps because there is a badly decomposed body resting in the outhouse, er, reservoir. .
Back in at the D.C. lab, the team examines the utterly disgusting body. Residue on the bones shows the victim had been shot in the head. "Whoever did this, did not get enough therapy," Lance (John Francis Daley) observes.
Camille (Tamara Taylor) pulls something from the throat -- a photograph. Meanwhile, suddenly single Jack (T.J. Thyne) is hobnobbing with Daisy (Carla Gallo), a recently-arrived intern. They find a hair among the barrels of sewage taken from the site: the victim also wore a wig. Who is this guy?
Angela (Michaela Conlin) is busy using the skull to recreate a digital image of the victim. The picture looks oddly familiar. Sure enough, it's the host of a "Cheaters"-like reality TV show called "Busted by Bill." Specifically, the man's name is Bill O'Rourke. Booth and Brennan head to meet Mrs. O'Rourke -- bickering like a married couple the entire way. Booth asks if the woman's husband had any enemies.
"Did you see that show?" the incredulous wife asks. "There wasn't a man he caught that wouldn't want him dead."
The duo visits the "Busted by Bill" set and meets producer Arthur (Richard Gant), producer Veronica (Elizabeth Lackey) and cameraman Pete (Tim Griffin). Arthur explains he was the last person to see the star alive. Turns out the two had a loud argument on the night of Bill's demise. The host had threatened to quit. And guess what? The show also had Bill heavily insured.
"If he was found dead, you'd end up with a nice payout," Booth says to Arthur.
Back at the lab, Daisy is driving Camille crazy with her incessant talking. The intern is super excited to be working with the much-admired Ms. Brennan. "Wouldn't it be fun if I were here forever?" she asks. Camille is less than enthused.
Angela enters with the recreation of the photograph found in the victim's throat. It's a naked couple cuddling in bed. "If I had to guess, I'd say the mystery couple was knocking boots," she says. Not a bad guess, Angela. Good work.
In the meantime, Booth and Lance are watching hours upon hours of "Busted by Bill." Lance explains they should be looking for an angry contestant -- not an apologetic one. "Check out one Jim Dodd," Lance says while pressing play. Indeed, Dodd (John DiMaggio) is caught cheating on camera and promptly punches poor Bill in the face.
Good television but could it also be evidence of a sort? Booth and Lance interrupt Brennan's dinner date to give her the news. She is less than pleased.
"That guy is gay," Booth says of Jason (Rob Boltin), her date, a different man than Mark.
The two head to a nearby diner where Booth knows an acknowledged stalker by the name of Noel (Scoot McNairy). The pair offer Noel $50 to trail a friend of Dodd's in hopes of the finding the man. At the lab, Jack and Camille have made a discovery among the outhouse sewage: a 40-caliber bullet. Camille and Angela, meanwhile, have discovered Viagra in Bill's bloodstream.
A day later, Booth and Brennan meet Noel, who says he trailed Dodd's friend and eventually found Dodd at a divorce support group filled with "weepy" men and "dumb" women.
"The Dodd dude? He's hooking up with at least two of them," Noel explains. "That's probably why he goes there every day."
That's all Booth needs to hear. He hauls in Dodd, who insists he did not kill Bill. The man says he was out of the city, borrowing money from his mother to pay off gambling debts on the night of the murder. This alibi is just too pathetic to be a lie. Looks like a big-time strike out (and a waste of $50).
Back the lab, Camille has taken another pass at the photograph and discovers a tattoo on the back of the mystery woman. "It's a tramp stamp of some kind," she says. Angela then plays a off-air tape of "Busted by Bill" in which the host explains to Arthur he can no longer work with his producer, Veronica. Why? Because "it's over" between them.
"It seems like Viagra popping Billy might have gotten himself a bit involved with someone at work," Jack says.
Could the photograph be of Veronica and Bill? Did the producer kill her former lover to stay on the show? Stay tuned!
Brennan and Booth arrive at the studio to interview Veronica. The producer denies she was sleeping with Bill and shows a tattoo-free lower back to prove it. Another dead end! So very frustrating!
But wait! Further evidence has conveniently revealed itself. To wit: Camille and Jack have discovered a scratch on Bill's thigh. The diagnosis: It was made by an "infected tongue piercing." Camille goes to the tape: a woman used to entrap men on the show has such tongue piercing. Her name is Holly (Jill Wagner) -- and guess who will soon be paying her a visit?
If you guessed Booth and Brennan, then give yourself a gold star. The duo confront the woman and demand she hand over her tongue stud for examination. "We loved each other," Holly says. "Why would I kill a man I loved?" She confesses to being the woman in the photo (showing her tramp stamp for good measure), but denies having anything to do with Bill's death. Interestingly, she then explains she once dated Pete the cameraman. You remember him, right?
Later, Jack and Daisy enter with news: the photograph was forced down Bill's throat with the back end of a microphone. Holly had access to a microphone. Who else did? Perhaps a cameraman? "I know who did it," Brennan says.
Sure enough, Pete the cameraman is soon nestled in an interrogation-room chair. Before you can say "a broadcast hour is almost up," Pete confesses to the diabolical (and messy) murder. "Look, I'm a nice guy, you can ask anybody," he says. "I just lost it."
Case closed.
But not the episode. Booth and Brennan meet with Lance to discuss the tension (sexual?) between them. Brennan explains her boyfriends dumped her -- and her relationships are always only temporary. Booth vehemently disagrees.
"There is someone for everyone -- someone you're meant to spend the rest of your life with," Booth says. "You just have to be open to see it."
The two stare at each other longingly ... and then break the awkwardness by bickering.
After they exit, Sweets makes a phone call. To whom? Why, Daisy Wicks! Lance offers condolences on her recent firing, then hears about her accordion playing. He's charmed.
<Note: I started to fix this but I gave up. It is so poorly written (it reads like it was written by high schoolers) that I just decided it isn't worth the time to rewrite it. Maybe somebody else will.>
