A LOT happens in this pilot
kfbooth9 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Of all of my reactions to this episode, this is the one I came away with: a lot happens in this episode. There are a lot of storylines that get introduced - the temple, the temple mentor, the sister's upcoming wedding, the parents (one happy to have her home, the other not so), the sword stealer, the brother's coming out, the love interest who just happens to have the knowledge she needs, the ex, the ex-es new girlfriend, the loan shark shaking everyone down - so many that alot of the moments got lost. Most likely going forward they will parse out the storylines more economically.

Very good, although predictable, pilot!
As a fan of the original my expectations were extremely low, but this was good pilot. I thought the fight scenes were well choreographed, the acting of the mains was good, and the storyline was good enough.

Negatives were that it was extremely predictable and even cliche in parts (obvious love triangle, overbearing chinese family, etc.). Also the acting did fall flat a few times, particularly with the supporting characters.

Surprisingly good

Reminds me a lot of the arrow and arrowverse shows as it is starting. Has some of the better fighting for a Kung Fu show , iron fist was aweful in comparison. The drama was a bit heavy but it's the first episode and starting, so I think it will find a groove and be a good replacement for arrow.

Just okay

The show is slow and the acting is not the best. I have watched all episodes so it must be doing something for me to keep watching.

I think it is how the show tries to bring family values and their family drama into the mix.

Not much fighting as you would except from a show called Kung Fu.

Everything's just bad...

It was a task to finish watching first episode but I've managed to do that. It's a regular bad CW tv show that probably won't stay on for more than 2 seasons. Bad acting for a start.

Horrible camera work during the fights, it's almost circling around then back and forth, then let's startling circling around again, as if a drunk monkey is holding a camera, maybe a regular monkey because I think monkeys don't drink. Zero chemistry between main lady and her parents and her ex.

CGI looks horrendous, even houses on fire looked so poorly made, in 2020 you MUST do better even on a low budget.

Annoying teenage drama unknown soundtrack... There's no likable characters. Passive aggressive brother is incredibly annoying.

Good luck to everyone who will give this show a chance but it won't be me :)
