I am a cat person, I grew up with cats. In fact, I had a cat when this episode first aired, and I was very angry with it then and I'm still angry with it now. Arthur behaves with such hatred, resentment, prejudice, and scorn toward Francine and her new kitty Nemo. As much as I love Arthur, I will admit that a lot of its episodes like this are written with bad pop science/culture beliefs that started in the 90's and further on that we're still experiencing the fall out of it even today. In this episode's case, it's the idea that owning a dog makes you the best person in the room, and makes feel superior both morally and ethically above all others, and that anyone who doesn't own a dog is therefore a bad person, because the non-dog-pet you own is stupid, vicious, cruel, and evil. No, animals are not evil. People are evil. This episode is fallout from the idea that, if people just owned dogs because "their man's best friend", and we be a lot closer to mankind and the world at large if we all just owned a dog. That is what Arthur is trying to tell me here. I get offended when I ever watch cartoons or live-action movies or Tv shows, that demonize, abuse or vilify cats. This episode doesn't offer any kind of solution to kids like me who did get bullied by people who hate cats. Nor does Arthur apologize to Francine at the end. This episode made me hate the shows title character, and I can't get over that. I have nothing against dogs, I like dogs, I was born in the year of the Dog. But I do not like being shamed or told that the animals I own and love and care for are evil. I don't say the same about dogs, even though there is plenty I could say about some dogs, but I won't because as I mentioned before, "Animals are not evil. People are".
