A phenomenal start.

Monsignor Augustine Renard arrives back to the home he left twenty years ago, not everyone is pleased to see him back, as a man of God he's keen to bring comfort to his new flock, in spite of the terror of German invasion.

Absolutely wonderful, this first episode was fabulous, I knew the combination of Russell Lewis and John Thaw would produce something special, I had no idea it was going to be this good.

It's enthralling, it's captivating, it's chilling. Here we see the terror and fear that the German army must have caused the poor locals, they capture that atmosphere incredibly well.

John Thaw, what an actor, what an absolute legend he was, and he is fabulous here, it's a totally different performance to the well known one in Morse.

Visually it's terrific, from the opening scenes, to the black and white shots on the beach, they managed to capture the feel of the 40's.

I hope the rest of the series is this good, a virtually perfect opener, 10/10.
