Comedy Films Get Complicated
boblipton15 September 2020
When the matronly lady is offended by Billy Quirk's over-the-top wooing, she calls for the cop, who throws another guy out.

Once upon a time, that would have been the entirety of a comedy movie, and at some places, it still was: set-up, punchline and that's it. However, movies had grown in length from the days when they were all 50 seconds, and longer lengths meant not just ornamentation of the basic gag, but a progression of gags.
