The episode suffered numerous delays due to different Force Majeure circumstances. First, the animation art, which was being made by a single animator, took longer than expected. Principal filming couldn't begin until animation was complete, and it started in February 2020, when they expected to start filming at least before the end of 2019. Then, when there was only one day left of shooting, the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone to lock down at their homes, which halted the production until the final scenes could be filmed in the middle of April with the proper precautions. Finally the episode could be released on May 1, 2020, eleven months after the previous episode. In the meantime, to makeup for such delay, the team released the first episode of the companion series Sanders Asides (2021), to at least provide some Sanders Sides content while people were waiting, an episode that since 2023 is considered part of "Sanders Sides" after the reorganization of Sides and Asides videos that happened in September 2023.
First episode where Virgil didn't appear at all since The Mind vs. The Heart (2017) back in January 2017. And even that episode had a minor mention of Virgil by Patton, so to find a previous episode where Virgil wasn't even mentioned at all, you have to move back to Way Too Adult (2016) in November 2016, an episode made before he was even introduced into the series. Even in the first episode of the series, My True Identity (2016), there's a moment where Thomas mentions his anxiety, months before it was even conceived as a character, which means that "Way Too Adult" and this "Putting Others First" are the two only episodes in the whole series where Anxiety/Virgil is not seen and mentioned at all.
John Stratman, who animated all the video game sequences, when he was animating the wedding sequence, he had received voice recordings for all the characters except for the line where the Emcee called the bride and groom to the first dance, so he voiced that line himself.
Many of the supporting characters that appear in the video game sequences are inspired on the likeness of many of Thomas Sanders' friends. All of them have been extensively featured in his work.
They are, in order of appearance:

First time Davi Decandia credited themselves with the surname Decandia. They had previously said on their Twitter account that they had decided to switch to their mother's maiden surname as a homage to their Italian heritage on their mother's side, and was planning to make the same change legally, even if for the time being they were going to keep it only on credits.
