Hatching Pete Or Channeling Cyrano
bkoganbing30 April 2009
Disney Studios new teen comedy Hatching Pete is about two high school kids who both are their team's Chicken Mascot. Only one claims credit for it while the other does the work.

I suppose that Cyrano De Bergerac is well in the public domain so no one will be suing the Magic Kingdom any time soon. But I suspect that Rostand would not be too unhappy with this updating of his classic set in 21st Century America. In fact things work out a whole lot better for these kids than for Cyrano and Christian.

Teen Disney Television stars Jason Dolley, Mitchell Musso, and Tiffany Thornton star in Hatching Pete. Musso is the school's chicken mascot, a family tradition as his father was one also. The problem is that Musso's developed an allergy to the costume and just can't go on. So he has good friend and wallflower transfer student Jason Dolley put on the suit for a game.

But Dolley discovers he's got a real flair for those outfits and soon he becomes the reason the crowds come out. It certainly isn't for the team and its coach Brian Stepanek. In fact there's a lot of jealousy developing between Stepanek and his players with the chicken no matter who it is.

In fact both Dolley and Musso would like to win Homecoming Queen Tiffany Thornton even though cheerleader Josie Lopez is a whole lot nicer. Trust me, it all works out in the end.

Hatching Pete is a nice product from the Magic Kingdom and who knows in some English Literature class in some high school in the USA someone may realize where this plot comes from and develop an appreciation for the classics.

Boring and unnecessary...
RosanaBotafogo16 March 2023
Poole is Hondo High School's mascot and his entire family played the same role at the school. The problem is, Poole is allergic to the mascot costume. To solve the problem he asks his best friend Pete to take his place. But this will change their friendship, as Poole starts to become popular at school, getting all the attention for something he's not actually doing.

Jeez, I love silly and meaningless, who abused a lot, just unnecessary, with a total lack of grace, nothing captivating, not even the mascot is funny, cute, but unbearable. Does it get better in the next 72 minutes left to finish? I doubt it very much... The scene of the kid with his father, and the frago without his clothes with the girl, are the cutest, and the only valid ones... Boring and unnecessary...

Give me a break!

Warning: Spoilers
Oh, you've got to be kidding me! What is the world is up with Disney? Remember when Disney was responsible for classics such as Tarzan, Mulan and The Little Mermaid. And now we have these ridiculous TV shows that should be insulting to kids such as Jonas and Phineous and Ferb and movies about a boy finding his confidence in a chicken suit!! C'mon!!

I can't even believe the actors, if you can call them actors, can talk about this movie with a straight face. And by the way, Mitchell Musso looks like a bird himself!!!

I can't even believe people watch this junk!! I would have rated this a zero, but the choice was unavailable.

Another Underdog that Shined!

I don't know what's the matter with people. I LOVED THIS! I thought I'd set myself up to be disappointed because I was so excited for it but I wasn't disappointed at all! Okay, maybe by the fact that it didn't seem as long as other (worse) movies. But this was spectacular. And thankfully there was no "burning in effigy" of the guy who just wanted to be accepted. And for once there was a movie where the bullies didn't get to pick on the kids without an adult getting involved. I loved every second of it. Jason Dolley, Josie Lopez and Mitchel Musso as well as the rest of the cast were all fabulous. It's a shame it's getting lost in the shuffle. It's not even getting it's own DVD release, it's sharing with Dadnapped (which was okay but not great). I guess I'm just the kind of person that likes what most people don't. Booyaw for being different!!
