Matt Damon and Cécile de France in Hereafter (2010)

Goofs

Hereafter

Edit

Continuity

When Matt Damon sits down with Marcus for a reading, Matt rolls up his left sleeve twice.
Throughout the film, it is apparent that Marcus is played by two boys. In many scenes, he clearly has his left ear pierced (although no earring is worn, the hole is very distinctive). In other shots, most notably, during the "subway/underground" scene, he has no piercing.

Factual errors

The Tube station where Markus narrowly misses a terrorist bombing is incorrectly identified as Charing Cross Station. None of the July 7 bombings took place anywhere near Charing Cross. The external shot of the station was taken of the Liverpool Street station where one of the bombs actually did explode on a train which had just left the station. The sign on the exterior was digitally altered to Charing Cross.
Marie and Didier eat at a Paris restaurant on the evening following the London attacks: 7 July 2005. It is pitch black outside. On that date in Paris, civil twilight ended at 10:38 pm (i.e. when the sky turned truly black). That late in the evening, diners at a Paris restaurant would not be in mid-meal - restaurants close up around 10:30 or 11 pm at the very latest.
At the book fair, George buys a box CD of Dickens readings by Derek Jacobi then the book by Marie. Going out of the Alexandra Palace , he only carries the book.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When the Mercedes van hits Jason, a shot from inside the car shows Jason's body thrown forward, cracking the windshield. *** The view is not from inside the Mercedes van, however. This can be clearly seen as the camera pans away from the twins, and the black car next to them has a cracked windshield. ***

Revealing mistakes

After George speaks to the hotel receptionist where Marie is staying, the receptionist resumes typing; however, nothing moves or changes on her computer monitor, which is in full view to the audience.
When Marcus is watching YouTube videos, the two videos he clicks on show the same number of views as well as the same video description.

Anachronisms

The film is set in 2005, yet, in the French publishing office, a poster advertises the publishing company for 2009.
The film is set in 2005, yet a poster for The Fourth Kind can be seen on the side of a bus when Jason leaves the pharmacy. The Fourth Kind was released in 2009.
The film is set in early 2005; however, the Macbook Unibody MacBook (pro) as seen in the publishers' offices were not introduced until 2008.
When Marie visits the hospice to get the information on near-death experiences, the wallpaper on the receptionist's computer shows a Windows 7 image (icebergs on the shore) rather than one from Windows XP, which one would expect for a movie set in 2005.
When getting back from their tsunami adventure, Marie and Didier are picked up by a Mercedes-Benz S-Class (model W221) at the airport. The W221 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show in the autumn of 2005 and wasn't in production until the beginning of 2006, almost a year after the Indian Ocean tsunami. Moreover, the model in the movie is the face-lift version launched in 2009 as MY2010 (check the LED taillights).

Crew or equipment visible

When Marie walks down the stairs with the psychic in Switzerland, you can see a cameraman cut across the path in the background. The shot shortly after is from his angle.

Errors in geography

When Marie goes to the clinic in Switzerland, the mountain road is not in Switzerland but in France. The security sticks along the roads are French ones (white and red). Swiss ones are white and black.

Boom mic visible

In two scenes: between Marcus and a psychic and between Marcus and his reading by George.

Character error

While showing visitors around Charles Dickens' home, the guide refers to his novel The Mystery of Edward Drood. The correct title is The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
The movie is set in early 2005, but Marie claims François Mitterrand died over ten years ago. In fact, Mitterrand died in January 1996.
