This is the product of decent writers
DrMarazanvose8 November 2021
I have watched many many shows and time and again I roll my eyes up as characters (typically shallow characters) do stupid things for nothing other than the advancement of the plot.

In this show that just doesn't happen - cause and effect actually matter.

They have foreshadowing - Dutton's worst nightmare at the beginning of season 3 becoming a reality in the last episode as an example.

They have characters with depth, purpose and individuality.

A* writers, actors and production values - what do you get? - an A* show.

Just wish others would take note and stop pumping garbage out that isn't fit for consumption for anyone with an IQ over 50.

Yellowstone is back

Right out of the gate Taylor Sheridan pulled no punches transitioning into season 4 and giving us the answers to all our questions. This episode was packed and carried alot of weight. 9/10 I cannot wait until next Sunday.

Best 15 Minute Opening TV History!
stephengioia8 November 2021
Completely worth the wait of the season 3 ending...it sucked me right back in. I waited over a year to see which Dutton wouldn't survive. Everyone acting like a badass in their own way.

Holy Smokes!!!

This was a great episode all-around. For all you smart phone film critics that trash Beth. This is a little heads up. She is a character in a fictional show playing a role. She is not your neighbor or coworker. She is basically the backbone of this show. This is the character the actress is playing. She is meant to be loathed and boy oh boy does the actress nail the role. Sit back and enjoy the rest of the season because Beth is probably gonna be there the whole time.

Love this show

Warning: Spoilers
I was disappointed that Rip wasn't searching for Beth after the explosion. Overall though great episode. Carter is a nice addition. So where are Monica & Tate? Militia, didn't see that coming.

Pretty amazing episode. Great way to start the season. I can't wait for the next one. Kevin of course plays the best part and sets up the pieces for the season to come. Hopefully more are to come from an amazing episode.

The Best Program on Regular TV
jdedge-696358 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the first three seasons and had been eagerly awaiting the fourth. The first two episodes did not disappoint. I was glad to see all the main characters return, but I was perplexed that Jamie did not have more of a part. His betrayal and relationship with his real father is the most unbelievable part but it does add a little JR to the story. He was an obvious suspect behind these ambushes and I thought that would have been explored sooner. In a typical Western fashion all of the gunmen were dispatched and disposed of, but someone who professed to have set this up was identified and will be heard from soon. This is hands down the best program on television.

This should have been the season 3 finale
bhester08068 November 2021
But it was great all the same. High paced action packed hour with a great look into the new spin off. The characters and actors didn't miss a beat. Can't wait to see what the season brings.

it is like visiting Tokyo.
weraqs15 November 2021
Because when you visit Tokyo and spend a few days there, you will rearrange your list of best cities on earth. This episode reminded me to do the same with my priorities on my imdb list. There is "nothing" in comparison to this episode. The emotional and action overload was so extreme that I had to pause at 5th, 9th minute and briefly paused the series to "breathe". I have given this series 10/10 long time ago already but, this episode is.. a billion out of billion. True definition of perfection. Thank you!

Picks up where it left off
ghfyhhx8 November 2021
Tyler Sheridan picks up the action in real time where the last season ended. Creating a seamless transition from one season to the next without holding any punches back.

So many weird gloss-overs
rabbitmoon2 October 2022
I enjoyed the episode, but can never fully love it as with S1&2. There's something so jarring and incongruent about the production value against the silliness of many moments.

As usual, the hitsquad were completely incompetent, not even managing to walk into an office and shoot a man. The bunkhouse stuff was so unclear I had no idea what was actually happening. Beth emerges like Wil E Coyote after an ACME bomb. Fire engines have blockaded the road and other first responders are on the scene - yet noone thought to check the building? So she swiftly satisfies Paramount's Big Tobacco sponsors (probably to pay for the subsequent action scene) while looking like she did at the end of Eden Lake.

Dutton gets released with a motorcade because he's the presiden- I mean a struggling ranch owner, who had no guards in the actual hospital. Jamie had no attack at all, so yeah good plan Jamie, the culprit doesn't look at all obvious.

My favourite moment was Kayce emerging like Jon Snow cosplaying as a tree. Followed by Winnie The Cowpooh throwing a snake.

What the hell are those buckle bunnies up to? Are they on the payroll or what?

Ridiculous
wallygatorca8 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Uh yeah right...Beth is able to stagger out of a building and light up a smoke where she was 10 feet away from a bomb that blew out the brick exterior wall she was standing in?

Cartoon stuff. Lazy writing...The Three Yellowstone Stooges? C'mon Man!

Catching up over New Year"s weekend
burntorange2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am rating this a 9 for the shootout/chase scene at the beginning alone, I thought I was watching Steve. McQueen in San Francisco!! Excellently done Would of given this episode a 10 but the snake scene was not really believable and Beth"s F-YOUing and threatening everyone is wearing a little thin.

Big pluses: Tate protecting his Mom and Beth's talk with the boy outside on the bench. Also LOVED when John went to the bunkhouse, very cool that group is just like a family. Can't figure out what Rip's problem is with Walker.. looking forward to finishing season 4!

One of the BEST season premieres I've ever seen!! The first 10-15 minutes has you on the edge of your seat and then you're finally able to relax and enjoy the episode. Waiting for months finally paid off and this was a fantastic episode!!!

Awesome beginning to a new season.
yamagata9 November 2021
After the multi-scene cliff hanger ending of last season that brings to mind the move, GOD FATHER, this season opener was worth the wait from last season. All were great in their roles, but Kelly Reilly really brought it to her role as Tom Duttons daughter.

Great action and story line. Absolutely LOVE Beth!

"Oh, that cheered me up." Best line.

I have a feeling all the Beth haters, hate strong women and have ego issues.

Fantastic, Worth The Wait.
d500jv8 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yellowstone never dissapoints. I was sure Kayce would survive because he is a real badass. Sucked that it took 43minutes to show he was okay.

Rainwater knows that Dutton and need to work together of risk losing everything.

To the Beth haters out there, grow up already. Basic storytelling tells us uou need a protagonist and an antagonist to have a conflict worth telling. Kelly Reily is a great actress and plays beth so well.

Excellent Opener
ronswilliams-0317115 November 2021
The writing, acting and cinematography continues at the highest levels previously established by this remarkable Television Series.

( a personal observation re the Beth negative reviews: Beth haters are irrational. This is dramatic fiction. Not an advocate for some SJW Political Currectness.) Bravos for Season 4, episodes 1 & 2!

Felt like a great full lenght feature

Greetings from Lithuania.

"Half the Money", 1st episode of season 4 just might have been the best one yet. I won't spoil it, but there was never a dull or boring moment in its 57 min. Run time. It just felt epic in every way - story, storytelling writing, acting and directing. Its hard to speak about this episode without going into spoilers, therefore i will only say this - watch it yourself, its a terrific episode.

Best season opener is years!
damian-18327 September 2022
Fortunately I am binge watching this so didn't have to wait between the end of season three, and boy was it worth the 10 minute wait. That's the most intense firefight I have seen on TV since HEAT many years ago. A great start to what I am beginning to think is going to be one of my favourite shows ever. Yes I know it's an exaggeration on reality, but it's very grounded in the very real fight between the old and the new way of running the world. The characters are believable both good and bad and the scripts are very well balanced. I'm going to have to slow down or I will actually have to wait more than 10 minutes for season 5 later this year.

Great but NOT fantastic
bookadog8 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The season premier starts right where the season 3 finale left off. We start in the aftermath of everything, Beth wandering out of the explosion, John on his way air-lifted to hospital and Kayce chasing down the mini van from hell. The pacing is great, the action fabulous and the tension rises and flows through the episode BUT there is a huge plot hole which drags on through Episode 2 as well. Where are Monica and Tate and why are they never mentioned? You would think that John and Kayce would mention someone breaking into their home and trying to kill Son/Grandson but the conspicuous absence is just that, a little conspicuous. You would think that Thomas Rainwater would ally himself to the Duttons for this reason alone. Very odd writing and left me feeling as though Taylor Sheridan was more interested in shoving himself on the show. As the episode concludes and we move into Episode 2 there is a sense of rushed writing and stones being left unturned. Show is still great BUT less is more.

Same plot...different season
filmcriticonfire9 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ok...I started out really liking this show. But the plot of this story is just the same as the beginning of season 1...people coming after Dutton and his land, Beth is pissed at the world and wants to kill Jamie. Oh, and let's not forget to take a few moments for fun-lovin moments of "good ol' boy" time in the bunkhouse playin cards at the table and drinking coors beer. Plus...the commercials!!! 1 hour show is more like 34 minutes after all the Ram pickup truck commercials.

One of the best shows on TV without question.

Characters are great. Love Beth- sexy and mental! There is so much crap out there it is refreshing to see something that is quality. Just wish they had released the whole season at once. Keep up the good work.
