Quotes
-
Madeline : Bonjour, Pepito.
Pepito : Hola, Madeline.
Madeline : Pepito, you look so sad. What is the matter?
The Ambassador : Oh, Pepito, my son. Do not look so sad. You will like living in London.
Madeline : London? You are moving to London?
Pepito : Si, Madeline! Today and I must leave Pablito the cat here. I must leave my whole menagerie here. My mother has developed an allergy.
Narrator : An ambassador does not have to pay the rent but he has to move to wherever he's sent.
Pepito : Adios, Madeline. Gracias for keeping Pablito.
Madeline : Au revoir, Pepito.
Pepito : Adios, amigas.
Miss Clavel : Au revoir, Pepito. Goodbye, we'll miss you.
-
Narrator : When they returned to the embassy of Spain, Pepito's mother was crying tears like rain.
[Pepito's mother sobs]
Miss Clavel : Dear lady, we beg your pardon. It seems the horse has eaten up your garden.
Simon : A little sunshine and rain, and it will be beautiful again!
Narrator : Pepito's mother said...
The Ambassadress : Quite so.
[sniffs]
The Ambassadress : Quite so. Still, I'm afraid, the horse must go.
[she sneezes four times]
The Ambassadress : My allergy's back. What else can I do?
Narrator : Then Madeline cried...
Madeline : I know what to do! Pepito, let us take care of him for you.
Miss Clavel : Well, I suppose that would be nice. I always wanted a horse.
Madeline : And just in case you're feeling down, Pepito, you may keep my medal of the crown. Happy Birthday, mon ami.
Pepito : Oh, thank you, Madeline! Gracias, Madeline!
-
Narrator : In London, Pepito just picked at his dinner, soon he grew thin, and then he grew thinner. And when he began to look like a stick, his mama said...
The Ambassadress : My, this boy looks sick. I think Pepito is longing for Madeline and his Parisian friends.
Narrator : His papa called Paris.
The Ambassador : Hello, Miss Clavel? My little Pepito is not at all well, he misses you. And he is lonesome for Madeline and the little girls next door.
Miss Clavel : They miss him too.
The Ambassador : Please, come and visit, there is plenty of room, and Pepito's birthday is coming up soon.
Miss Clavel : Merci beaucoup, Señor! What a lovely invitation!
Miss Clavel : Quick, darlings! Pack your bags, and then we will get out to the airport and catch the next plane!
The Ambassadress : Que bien, mí Pepito, your appetite has returned!
Pepito : That's because Madeline is coming to visit!
-
Narrator : Pepito named him Piccadilly, and he spoke to the horse, which to some might sound silly.
Pepito : Ah Piccadilly, your coat looks so clean and shiny. I think it's time we went for a birthday ride. Come on, Madeline!
Narrator : Just then, a trumpet blew.
Miss Clavel : Mon Dieu! Madeline! Pepito!
Narrator : Piccadilly jumped up, and off he flew, over the wall to take his place at the head of the Queen's Life guards, which he had always led.
Miss Clavel : Madeline! Pepito! Oh dear, they've gone! That horse has run away with them! Come, children. We must find them in London Town.
-
Narrator : They arrived home just in time to eat at a table full of birthday treats.
Madeline , Chloe , Nicole , Danielle : We love our bread, we love our butter, and most of all...
Madeline , Chloe , Nicole , Danielle , Miss Clavel , The Ambassador , The Ambassadress : We love Pepito! Happy birthday Pepito, happy birthday!
Pepito : Thank you! Gracias! Merci! And there is no better birthday present than to be with my friends! You make me very sleepy... and happy.
The Ambassadress : I think it is time for us all to go to sleep.
-
Narrator : They reached the embassy at midday, Pepito saw them and ran out to say...
Pepito : Madeline! Madeline! Que alegría! You have come just in time for my birthday!
The Ambassador , The Ambassadress : [in unison] Welcome to London!
-
Nicole : It is too bad that Madeline and Pepito missed all the fun.
Narrator : But of course, they had been having a wonderful time, for the Royal Parade, they headed the line. The birds had seen all this before, but they were glad of an encore.
Nicole : Look! Regardez! It is Madeline!
Chloe : And Pepito, too!
Narrator : And then it became really grand, there was a mascot... and his band. The people below were stout and loyal and those on the balcony mostly royal.
Madeline : I am the queen.
Pepito : I am the king.
Madeline : And you, Piccadilly, are the most royal of horses.
Miss Clavel : Oh, Madeline!
-
Miss Clavel : Good heavens! Pepito's birthday! We have bought no present!
Nicole : What shall we get him?
Madeline : Why, everybody knows, of course. He always said he craved a horse.
Miss Clavel : A horse? Mon Dieu! I do not think we can afford a horse.
Narrator : In their little purses and in Miss Clavel's bag, there wasn't enough money to buy the cheapest nag.
Miss Clavel : Well... we will just buy something else.
Chloe : Quel dommage!
Danielle : Oh no! He likes horses!
Miss Clavel : You are right, mes petites. In London, we may be able to get at least a retired horse as a pet. We will look.
-
Madeline : We must get to the bottom of this!
Madeline : Aha! An important clue. Pepito, where is Piccadilly?
Pepito : Uh, he was right here.
Madeline : And did you feed him last night?
Pepito : Uh... I think... I was too excited about my party. Porque? Why?
Madeline : Elementary, my dear Pepito. And just as I suspected. We must search the town for him.
Narrator : Just like a volcano eruption, they followed the trail of destruction. Just when they thought their efforts were in vain, they spotted a familiar mane.
Miss Clavel : Oh, look who is lying there, with his feet up in the air!
Madeline : I feel his breath, he is not dead yet. Oh, vite, vite, Pepito, get the vet!
Narrator : Dr. Stone came quickly by, she checked Piccadilly's heart and eyes.
Dr. Stone : Don't worry, he'e only asleep. Help me get him on his feet.
Dr. Stone : As a diet, there is nothing worse than green apples and roses for an old horse.
Nicole : Mm-hmm.
Danielle : Mm-hmm.
Chloe : Mm-hmm.
Dr. Stone : Promise me that when you take him away, you will feed him only grass and hay.
Miss Clavel : Just cut grass and hay for Piccadilly.
Simon : No green apples!
