Just okay...

Rather surprised this story took over 100 pages as a novel. There really is slim material here.

Young divorcée (well-portrayed by a frazzled Kelli Williams) returns to hometown with her daughter after a bitter divorce battle. She stays with her sister-in-law (trouble) and basically the title says it all.

This film was shamelessly promoted for weeks by LMN network, do not expect much. It is one step up from a soap opera, only because Kelli Williams gives a believable and decent performance as a fish out of water in a boring provincial town. There is a side theme with a neighborhood cat burglar which seems thrown in to add suspense, but it is too slim and unbelievable to save the plot. 6/10.

Excellent... worth the time

I saw this wonderful movie on hallmark channel (australia) and i have to say it was heart warming, great storyline and just warm storyline. What defines it is literally the word "Gossip" in a small town, as i am from one its 100% true what happens and how things can be misconstrued so easy. If you want a nice warm movie then rent this you wont be let down. I'll give it a 7/10. Wondering where to buy this movie?
pheonixcowgirl28 May 2009
Just wondering if anyone knows where this movie can be purchased? I tried to search for it on Chapters website and there is a couple of movies with the same name but this movie does not come up in my search. I actually haven't even seen the movie yet but really want to as it was filmed in Brigus, Newfoundland which is about 10 minutes from my home and I love Brigus, it's so beautiful there. So if anyone can help me in my search of where to purchase this movie I'd be very grateful. So far I have collected just about every movie filmed in Newfoundland and my sister told me about this movie and now I am so curious to see it. And for anyone who enjoys movies filmed in Newfoundland I highly recommend a movie called Rare Birds. Very funny movie with Andy Jones, Mary Walsh, Molly Parker and William Hurt.

An Enjoyable Movie

I loved this movie, having lived in a small New England town I can really appreciate this movie. Wish more people would get the message that Gossip is a real sin. It is a story of a divorcée fleeing to her home town to hide from her husband who is trying to take her daughter. Once she gets there she is not sure it was the right move for many reasons. The only part of the plot that kept me from giving it a 10 was the side story of a local thief. I felt it did nothing for the story line and was a little silly. One review asked where to purchase so I'm making this review. Here is a link to where it can be purchased. It is titled by the other title it is know as "GOSSIP" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZKYAWA?tag=moviefone-20

"I Did It My Way!"
lavatch16 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Like the Frank Sinatra song proclaims in repeated refrains, Jo Johnson always did it her way. Known as "that damned Johnson girl" in the sleepy ocean-side community of Camden Bay, Jo has returned to her roots with her young daughter Maddie Lou in tow, as she battles her husband over custody during their bitter divorce. Her goal in returning home is to keep the ex-husband as far as possible from her daughter.

Apparently, Jo has made a habit out of upping and leaving in critical moments of her life. In college, she had an affair with Scott. For a brief period, they were a couple of young idealists. Scott intended to travel to South Africa for humanitarian reasons. Jo had her sights set on Costa Rica. But neither Scott nor Jo was true to their word and never fulfilled their career dreams. Their relationship ended abruptly when Jo simply walked out on Scott, never informing him of her decision to dump him and never contacting him again.

Much to Jo's surprise, she is reunited with Scott in the gossipy town of Camden Bay. Scott is now happily married to Laura, the girls' soccer coach and a wonderful mom to their young son Kevin. Now living next door to Scott and Laura, Jo feels the romantic sparks rekindling every time she sees Scott...which is often! Will Scott have the courage to inform Laura of his past liaison with Jo? Will Jo and Scott be able to restrain themselves, especially when they both hit rock bottom and find themselves alone together in the rat-infested studio where Laura is working on her glass projects?

"Gossip" (a.k.a., "The One That Got Way") goes overboard in its depiction of a small town prone to gossip. The most ludicrous subplot is a burglar on the loose, riding a bike and wearing a hoodie, as he steals from people's homes. The rumor mill even points the finger to the prodigal daughter Jo, who has returned to Camden Bay at the precise time that the robberies began.

The film succeeded on the basis of the interesting set of characters, particularly the character of Jo, who is nicely performed by the lead actress. The strength of her character interpretation is that Jo is not one-dimensional and not even entirely likeable. In the story, Jo's bossy sister-in-law Sandy even wants to take little Maddie Lou away from Jo, due to her mom's wayward behavior.

The film's major theme has to do with the special mother-daughter relationship, which is apparent in Jo's connection to her crusty, strong-willed mom Carolyn. There is also a semblance of the emerging bond between Jo and little Maddie Lou. Without a doubt, some of Jo's life choices were imperfect. But, in the end, she is proud to be able to say with authority that, "I did it my way."
