Boy, these "Modern Marvels" shows kill me. They make everything you can drink or eat look fantastic. Usually, I go out the next day and buy something I had just seen on here. Unfortunately, in this case, it turned out to be a bottle whiskey!
Not only did the whiskey look golden and smooth, but the program was very educational (as usual). If one is not that familiar with the drink, you learn about the different kinds You also learn than 24 million gallons are sold every year.
Where does this program begin? Why, "Jack Daniel's," of course, the famous distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn. We learn how it's made and how this company provides its special flavor to the mix.
During the program we learn about the different kinds of whiskey: straight, bourbon, Irish, rye Canadian and Scottish. We learn what they all have in common: grain.
What country provides the most? Scotland.
A good share of the program is devoted to the history of whiskey and all it's varieties listed above. We learn about the "Whiskey Rebellion" and get tours in Ireland and Scotland. (Jameson and Glenlivet distilleries, respectively); learn how the phrase "bootleggers" came to be and, finally, learn about a new kind of whiskey being made in Colorado.
It's pretty interesting stuff and that golden liquid sure looks good. However, be careful! It's powerful. I noticed one other thing: the guys sampling the stuff and explaining it to us - the real connoisseurs - all we very heavy guys? Hmmmmm......what does that say?
