Two short silent films depicting some entertainers were fascinating finds on the "Saved from the Flames" DVD collection
On the DVD collection of preserved films called "Saved from the Flames", there are a couple of shorts that depict entertainers. One featured a woman, a Mme. Ondine, who performs the Serpentine Dance that was made famous by Loie Fuller. Ondine performs this in a cage with a couple of tigers who were just trained by a male ringleader just a couple of minutes before! The other short has Nikolai Kobelkoff, a no-legged and stumped-arm little person from Siberia, as he drinks, eats, paints (though the painting is finished when he uses a brush on it), and takes a watch from his shirt pocket with his stumped-arm. In some parts, a normal man helps Nikolai out. Oh, and the dance by Ondine is hand-tinted with different colors in several frames. As you probably noticed, the title I'm putting my reviews under is not the exact one but since I couldn't find the ones I'm looking for on IMDb, I thought they'd be similar enough to qualify. Update 6/26/10: I've just seen the color-tinted actual film of the title above on YouTube. What a fascinating find.
