- BFF Portland high school seniors Anni and Katie have planned since they were children to go to college together at Pine State. Anni wants to go to film school. While Anni's SAT scores are above average, they are probably not good enough to get her into competitive Pine State. Increased pressure is placed on Anni to do well on her next try on the SATs as Katie announces that with her score, she was accepted into the early admissions track. Anni is unsure if she can improve her previous score in having problems with what is her Achilles heel of trigonometry. Individually, her separated parents, Jennifer and Grant, encourage her and vow to do whatever they can to keep her on a path toward doing better on the SATs. Without telling her beforehand, Katie sets in motion a surefire way for Anni to get the needed SAT scores, the same way she got hers: pay someone to take the test for her. While Anni disagrees with what Katie has done on her behalf in it being illegal, she feels somewhat powerless to stop the process once Katie has started it. And while Katie's actress mother, Lisa, arranged and paid several hundred thousand dollars for Katie's test, Katie failed to inform Lisa that she had gone ahead and done the same for Anni and had put the charge on Lisa's credit card. Anni's sense of powerlessness increases as time goes on with the process, not knowing how to stop it even if she wanted to, and as it seems to Anni that the powers that be behind the scheme will do whatever, including kill, both to collect whatever is owed and to keep their clients from talking to protect the scam. With her life and those of her loved ones around in danger because of it, Anni is unaware of how far this scheme has extended into her circle.—unknown
