Before he became famous with Game for a Laugh, presenter Jeremy Beadle was known for this general interest and educational show on the BBC. It was aimed at a school audience and maybe explains his fascination in those 'gotcha' type of shows he became famous for.

The Deceivers was a television series recounting the history of swindlers and hoaxers. Beadle was the amiable presenter and the programme mixed information with humorous sketches.

It was a refreshing show aimed at a young audience which did not talk down at them but still educated and entertained.

Beadle would go on to make a similar format show a year later concentrating on inventions and science called Eureka.
