Synopsis

  • "Heroes" - "Chapter 11: The Eclipse Pt. 2" - Dec. 1, 2008

We pick up in the jungle with Peter wanting to go back for Nathan and the Haitian set on finding his brother. Peter says that the Haitian thinks this is a test of their resolve. Since his brother is also power-less, Peter says they should expose him to his army as such. He tells the Haitian he came for him to help stop his dad and prove that he could be a hero without powers.

Sandra has taken Claire to the ER. The doctor wants to know how Claire got shot, Sandra can't explain. The doctor says she can explain to the police then.

Sylar and Elle are making out and a little bit more it looks like. She wonders if the power-lessness and their love is permanent. Sylar doesn't know. He says if it is then she gets exactly what she wants, a chance to reinvent themselves. She thinks that's scary. He thinks so too, and unexpected. Shots ring through the window. Elle grabs a gun before they run. HRG busts into the house. They shoot at each other. As Sylar and Elle depart, HRG lands a hit on Elle. He follows their blood trail to an alley near a yard littered with junked cars. HRG yells out to them that he wants them to be scared just like Claire was.

Nathan is trying to pull on shackles in the dungeon where he's being kept. He introduces himself to a fellow prisoner, a female with a small child. The Haitian's brother, Baron Samedi, enters talking about the power of names. Men come in and drag the woman out, she will be sold as a prostitute. Them's the breaks says Samedi. Nathan says he won't allow it, rattling in his chains. Samedi says Nathan is just a man, while he's a god.

At Pinehearst Mohinder is researching the eclipse and its effects on the powers. Arthur is looking for answers. Mohinder has none and fFlint is breathing down his neck and can't believe he's being held against his will now that he's actually cured. Arthur says he understands Mohinder is under pressure but being power-less is making him feel vulnerable and paranoid. Flint jumps him and tortures him briefly with a Zippo. Arthur departs saying he's counting on Mohinder's help.

Back at the junkyard HRG gets a call from Sandra. She explains about the hospital and how Claire's whole system has been infected like she's never been sick. Sandra is scared and doesn't know what to say to the police. HRG says to tell them what he would tell them. You mean lie? She asks. He says he'll be right there. As he holsters his gun and walks back past the yard he sees a bloody handprint on a door and continues to follow the blood trail.

In Kansas Daphne explains to Parkman that without her powers she needs the leg braces because she has cerebral palsy and after the last eclipse she got her powers. Parkman explains that he and Hiro have lost their powers too. Daphne is blaming Arthur. She says it serves her right, since she's a villain, a nemesis. Parkman says she's a good person and she retorts that he doesn't really know her and to stop pretending like he can help her since he can't. Daphne's dad re-enters and she says Parkman was just leaving.

Mohinder is giving Flint an injection to help track the changes in his body. Flint wonders if Mohinder thinks he's that stupid. Mohinder says yes and brains him with a microscope. They fight with, shockingly, Mohinder getting the upper hand and knocking out Flint. He grabs Flint's security card and Maya's address - in New Jersey- and bolts.

At the comic book store in Kansas, Hiro is telling Sam and Frack they need help. Sam is skeptical that this is some kind of prank being perpetrated by Frack as what they're doing plays out just like on the comic panels before them. Ando tries to explain while Hiro grabs a box of 9th Wonders back issues to figure out what's going on.

Sylar and Elle have made it to a grocery store where Sylar is trying to help Elle stop the bleeding from her gunshot wound. A clerk with a price gun asks them if they need help. Sylar throws money at him and says no. The clerk backs away. Sylar suggests they split up since Elle's blood has left a trail for HRG to follow and if they stick together he'll kill them both. She doesn't want to, she says they're better off together that HRG is the one with the power now, he's well-trained. Sylar muses that maybe he deserves death. Elle says he's changed and not to give up. Her plan is to let him follow and set a trap. Sylar agrees and they run.

In the jungle Samedi is manhandling the woman. The Haitian brains him from behind. Samedi is surprised he's bleeding. He says the only way to stop him is for the Haitian to kill him. The Haitian raises his gun and knocks out Samedi and Peter begins to bind his hands instead.

Hiro is excitedly reading his history through the back issues. Parkman enters the store surprised that this is Hiro and Ando's solution. Frack offers the eclipse theory: when it's over they'll get their powers back. Parkman sees in a panel Daphne speeding off and thinks they might be on to something and rushes back to her house. Frack is all "That's Matt's butt, man!" Sam is still skeptical. Ando tells Hiro the good news. But Hiro is sad and doesn't want to grow up: he's reached the violent parts of the story in the comics.

Nathan is talking to the young girl left behind in the cell with him, confessing that he once had power and influence and should've stood up for people like her but he didn't. He apologizes. Peter and the Haitian enter and undo his shackles. They hear shouting in the distance. Peter tells Nathan and the Haitian to go on and he'll hold them off since they are important and he is expendable. He tells Nathan to have some faith in him. They run as Peter stands his ground with a gun.

Claire is illing in the hospital and in big pain. Sandra gives her the pain meds button. Claire wonders where her dad is. Sandra says he's on his way. Claire says she's lying. She says she was so stupid since all she wanted was for the ability to go away and now it's gone. The cops, calling Sandra Mrs. Butler, say they need to question her. Sandra says she needs to be brave. Claire says she's not brave she's just a stupid teenager who thought she could be more and apologizes for ruining everything and then she codes. Sandra freaks and the doctors pour in.

Elle and Sylar have run into the back of the store where they spy HRG on closed-circuit. Sylar pushes Elle into a freight elevator and sends her downward to buy some time to face HRG alone. She cries in resistance but it's too late. Sylar and HRG fight.

Claire is going into cardiac arrest and the doctors are slicing open her chest as Sandra looks on.

Sylar and HRG fight more as Sylar taunts him saying he gets it that HRG is now the one with the power and he is the defenseless one. As he lets HRG beat him mercilessly he asks "what if Claire could see you now?" HRG doesn't cotton to that and continues wailing on him. Then Sylar starts to fight back.

They are shocking Claire with a defibrillator at the hospital.

Sylar and HRG fight some more. Elle's elevator comes back up and she sees HRG - who has lost his HRGs- grab a box cutter. He grabs Sylar from behind and says that Sylar always wanted to be special, but look at him now, he's nobody. He cuts Sylar's throat and walks away. Elle is traumatized.

The eclipse is nearing its end as the doctors pull a sheet over Claire. Sandra pulls it back and cries.

The eclipse ends and as suspected Claire takes a deep breath and her wounds start to heal. Sandra says wisely, that they need to get her out.

Parkman knocks on Daphne's door. Her father comes out with a crutch and says Daphne's gone... again, no note or anything. Her dad blames himself. Parkman reads his mind but is getting crossed with thoughts from Daphne's head including a confession of working for Arthur. He finds her in the cornfield working on the scarecrow. Since she could be anywhere he wonders why she's still here. She says she came to talk to the scarecrow, which she made when she was 13 to save her dad's crops. Parkman says he understands that life took a lot from her and she was just trying to take something back (as a thief). He says we're all flawed, powers or no. He says when it counts she's a good person and she knows it and knows that he knows it. She asks if he forgives her. He says it's not his forgiveness she seeks. She runs to her dad and hugs him, forgiving him I guess.

In the jungle Peter faces down the militia men, shooting lots of bullets but not hitting much. He runs out of bullets and put his hands up in surrender. The men start to surround him but the Haitian comes up behind them and knocks 'em out. He and Nathan have returned. Samedi emerges crowing that those are just men but he is a god and they should've stopped him when they had a chance. Nathan, in French, says he won't hurt anyone else. Samedi says it's not Nathan's fight. Nathan says Samedi made it his fight and charges him scooping him up and throwing him into a car. He sits up unhurt. The Haitian says this is his fight and grabs his brother's head as his brother protests that he's, well, his brother. The Haitian says that has no power over him now and puts the whammy on.

Mohinder has made it to Jersey and knocks on Maya's door full of joy, until he sees his own scaly hand and runs before Maya opens the door. She bends down and finds the paper with her address as he hides and scurries away.

Sam and Ando are trying to coax Hiro out of the bathroom. He says through the door that when he tries to be a hero bad things happen, like his father dying. Sam says if he was in fact Hiro he would resume his duties since he gives people hope that anybody, even an office drone like Hiro, can make a difference. Frack gives Sam a hard time for believing in this stuff. Sam says he doesn't. Hiro emerges and bows in thanks. Frack has found something in one of the comics. It's the one where Hiro's dad gives the baby Claire to HRG and makes him swear to protect her. In the panel Hiro, in the clothes he's wearing now, is standing beside Claire observing this scene through a window. They think this means that Hiro has to take Claire to that time and place now to get his memory back. Hiro wonders how to find her. Frack hands him another comic. Hiro says he must go there now. He grabs the comics and teleports. Now Sam believes.

HRG enters Claire's bedroom and asks if she's okay. She says she needed him and he wasn't there again. He apologizes and says there was something he had to do. She says it's always like that. He says no, the day he was assigned to protect her... she interrupts that that's all she is, an assignment. She says she died but that's old news to him. It's not, he is shaken that she died. He wonders when. She wonders why it matters.

The lightbulb goes off over HRG's head and he runs downstairs where Elle and Sylar, fully empowered, are holding Sandra. Sylar whaps HRG against a wall telekinetically. Sylar says they've come to take Claire since that was their original mission from Arthur. HRG taunts him asking if he's being a good boy for daddy now? Sylar says he just wants what HRG does: home and family and starts to telekinetically choke him. Claire says to stop, that she will go with them. HRG says that Sylar isn't really Angela and Arthur's son, that they're just leveraging his mommy issues to get Sylar to do their bidding. Elle warns Sylar that he's lying, that's he shouldn't let HRG get in his head. HRG says she knows exactly who Sylar is since she helped create him and wonders if she really thinks that she and Sylar can have a normal life since Sylar killed her father. Sylar is starting to freak, and droop but then rebounds and starts to slice HRGs throat. Hiro suddenly shows up. He puts his hand on Sylar's shoulder saying "bad man..." and disappearing. A second later he pops up behind Elle and disappears her. A moment later he grabs Claire's hand and says "save the cheerleader..." and disappears her. HRG and Sandra stare at their now empty living room.

At the comic book store Parkman and Daphne enter surprised to find Hiro gone. Sam says the well is dry since they have read the last comic. But then remembers that he heard an urban legend that the day Isaac Mendez (the original painter, 'member?) died he bequeathed his last sketchbook to a humble bike messenger. If they can find that bike messenger they can at least find the last story.

In the jungle the Haitian reunites the two sisters. Nathan thanks the Haitian, especially for his sacrifice. Peter asks if Nathan is alright. Nathan says he respects that Peter has always made decisions from his heart and apologizes. Peter thanks him. Nathan says he's going to Pinehearst, that their dad's crazy idea about giving people powers is actually a good one as long as they give it to the right people, like the Haitian. He tells Peter to imagine how great it would be to stop genocides in places like Darfur. Peter tries to protest about why it's wrong. Nathan says he knows the Pinehearst way isn't perfect, not yet, but if he doesn't try and help stop the evil in the world he's just as guilty as the people commiting the evil. He tells Peter to call some dude for help getting home and throws him a flashlight. Peter pleads with him. Nathan apologizes and flies away.

Arthur is in a Pinehearst hospital room overlooking a patient, it's Flint, comatose from the Mohinder beatdown. Scaly Mohinder enters. Arthur says the eclipse showed them all who they are: desperate, angry, and weak. He asks if Mohinder is ready to get back to work. Mohinder says to look at him, where else could he go. Arthur says they will find a cure for Mohinder but that he will have to take care of the monster within on his own.

Sylar stands on a beach as Elle appears. He asks if HRG was really lying about his parents, since it seemed like HRG thought she knew more than she was saying. She says that he was just trying to mess with Sylar and gets faint. He has her sit down. He goes to touch her head and she flinches. He then lays her down on the beach and begins kissing her. He says that he was thinking about what she said about being free of powers and reinventing themselves and has decided he doesn't believe that people can change after all. She says he did. He says it was temporary and then he got his powers back and he understands now that he's never going to change and neither is she since they're both damaged goods. She cries out that he's hurting her. He says he knows and starts to do the head slicing finger thing.

Hiro teleports himself and Claire to the moment on the balcony in New York. Claire is confused as she sees her dad with Kaito Nakamura handing HRG a baby as a young Hiro sits a table nearby. Hiro shows her the comic book and has her read along with the scene. She realizes what she's witnessing and freaks.
