Synopsis

  • Welcome to "Chuck Versus the Third Dimension," conveniently showing in -- wait for it -- 3D! We open to find Chuck (Zachary Levi) dreaming of a sexy, lingerie-clad Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) climbing slowly (in 3D!) up the bed (in 3D!). "I watched you kill that Fulcrum agent in cold blood," our hero says. Suddenly, Sarah pulls out a knife (in 3D!). "This isn't a dream," she says. "It's a nightmare!"

Chuck awakens with a start (in 3D!) and heads to breakfast with Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin). Both are concerned about the poor guy's stress level. "Maybe what you need is a day off," Ellie says. Not today, though. Chuck heads to the Buy More to find it packed. Turns out famous rock star Tyler Martin (Dominic Monaghan) is coming for an in-store visit. But before we meet Tyler (in 3D!), Chuck has an Intersect Moment! He sees a shady looking dude, Achmed Gambir (Nicholas Guilak) carrying a time bomb. Our hero does what our hero usually does and calls for help. Casey (Adam Baldwin) arrives but shady man is nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, the bomb has been left behind. Casey and Chuck rush to the back room (in 3D!), toss bomb into a fridge and then lock the fridge in a storage room. It EXPLODES, but no one gets hurt.

Later, Chuck and Sarah are briefed by the general (Bonita Friedericy). Turns out someone wants to kill Tyler Martin. But why? The general informs the team that Martin just returned from a tour of Africa and the bomb from the previous paragraph is commonly used by "North African intelligence units." Somehow, the team will have to get Tyler alone for questioning. The not-so-bright rock star arrives at the Buy More to find hundreds of screaming fans (in 3D!). "Hello, Cleveland!" he yells. "This is going to be easy," Sarah says with a wink. She corners Tyler in the backroom, pretending to be a groupie. "I could be whatever you want," she coos. Just then, Casey hits Tyler with a tranquilizer dart. Charlie -- sorry, Tyler -- goes out like a light.

Chuck is left to babysit while Sarah and Casey leave to do other spy stuff. Remember earlier when Ellie mentioned Chuck could use a night off? Well, rock star Tyler wakes up and declares Tuesday a "party night." He also invites Chuck along with him. Our reluctant spy does what any red-blooded reluctant spy who hasn't had a night off in two years would do and agrees to hit the town. Seconds later, Chuck and Tyler are at a club downing shots (in 3D!). One montage later, the pair has downed about 20 shooters. It's getting ugly.

Casey and Sarah enter the club and quickly spot shady time-bomb guy! "You should know that Mr. Martin is still in danger," he growls while revealing a coat full of bombs. Indeed, the boys have been dancing with two beautiful babes -- both of whom Chuck identified as undercover weapons experts! Nevertheless, Chuck and Tyler head upstairs with groupies, who quickly corner our hero. Chuck makes a break for it and finds himself on the hotel roof. The ladies throw knives (in 3D!) but miss as Chuck leaps onto the top of an outdoor elevator! Suddenly, Casey and Sarah appear out of nowhere and disarm the gals. Saved again (in 3D!).

The foursome -- Casey, Sarah, Chuck and Tyler -- return to the safe house. Suddenly, Chuckster has another Intersect Moment! Turns out a tattoo on Tyler's back is a "very clear message about private reactor that's being built in North Africa." The rock star's manager has been hired by our shady man to use his client to smuggle secrets across the border! Now shady man wants his walking, talking, slurring mule dead.

Back at under-the-yogurt-shop-headquarters, the general presents the plan: Tyler will go onstage as "bait" to draw out the assassin. "Tyler could be killed!" Chuck whines. Not surprisingly, Casey couldn't care less. Somewhat surprisingly, the same goes for Sarah. "I don't know what happened to you, but this is our job," she says. Chuck agrees to talk with Tyler. "One night of bravery for an entire life of normalcy," agent Bartowski tells the rocker. The sharp-eyed viewer doesn't need 3D glasses to know Chuck is really talking about himself.

The group heads to the concert. Chuck and Tyler chill in the dressing room while Casey and Sarah work the crowd. But it turns out they're all too late. Shady time-bomb guy has already infiltrated the arena. He breaks down the dressing-room door (in 3D!) and pulls a knife (in 3D!). Chuck holds up his cell phone. He has taken a picture of Tyler's secret tattoo. "You take one more step, I send this email and everyone knows -- proving that the cell is mightier than the sword," Chuck says. Just then, Tyler BURSTS out of the closet (in 3D!) and takes off running. Chuck follows and the two end up onstage in front of a roaring crowd. The assassin is about to throw a knife when Chuck and Tyler stage dive (in 3D!). It's a brilliant escape maneuver and allows for Casey and Sarah to corner -- and then beat the living crap out of -- shady guy!

Later, the team says goodbye to Tyler, who agrees to have his tattoos removed. "You taught me to put people in front of myself," the rock star tells Chuck. "If you ever want to party, you know where to come." Tyler exits, leaving Chuck and Sarah alone. She wants to know if something is bothering our gentleman spy. "I saw you shoot that Fulcrum agent on Christmas Eve," he blurts out. "You were protecting me ... but, Sarah, the guy was unarmed." Sarah says she did what she had to do. She then gives Chuck a day off.

"When you're ready again we'll be there," she says. Casey and Sarah get into the car to undertake another mission. And guess who immediately joins them? Turns out our buddy doesn't really want a day off from being a spy. And, apparently, he is no longer afraid of his would-be girlfriend (in 3D!).
