Synopsis

  • FLASHBACK! We open at Elizabeth C. Stanton Middle School in 1992. Lil Morgan Grimes (Andy Pessoa) gets socked by a girl and is saved by lil Chuck. "Morgan, maybe you should stay away from girls for, like, 15 years," the cute-as-a-button Chuckster says. Fast forward to 2009. Grown-up Morgan (Joshua Gomez) proposes a "spying mission" to discover whether Anna (Julia Ling) is dating another guy. Spying?! Chuck (Zachary Levi) is good at that! Sort of.

So Jeff (Scott Krinsky), Lester (Vik Sahay), Morgan and Chuck head out to spy on Anna from Jeff's creepy van. "We're like crazy stalkers!" protests our hero. In the meantime, Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) spy on Chuck and his buddies spying on Anna. It works on so many levels! Suddenly, a man shows up and begins making out with Morgan's ex. Chuck looks through Jeff's binoculars and has an INTERSECT MOMENT!

Back at subterranean yogurt shop headquarters, the general (Bonita Friedericy) explains tonight's primary plot line: Anna's new boyfriend, Jason Wang (Jack Yang), runs with a "dangerous crew of local Triad gangsters ... we didn't know about Wang's involvement before Chuck's flash.' The general wants the team to learn more about the gang, apparently running guns (and possibly more). Chuck will use his social connection to "infiltrate the suspect." In other words, he will have to befriend Wang and betray Morgan.

But that's just the beginning of the Chuckster's problems. Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) awakens our hero the next morning with a request: find a band for the Ellie-Awesome wedding. And wouldn't you know it? Jeff and Lester have a band called "Jeffster." "We'll play your sister's big day!" Lester practically begs. Chuck gives them a flat-out "no" before approaching Anna. "I heard you have a new guy," he says. "How would you like to go on a double date sometime?" It's a date. Chuck and Sarah will go to a party at Wang's pad. Chuck feels terrible.

Naturally, Wang's pad turns out to be a swanky car dealership. And, naturally, Morgan watches the party via a pair of binoculars. He notices Chuck hobnobbing with Anna and Wang. "It can't be!" Morgan says. "Judas." Back at the dealership, a gang of Triads walks through the front door and Chuck gives chase.

Meanwhile, Ellie's computer crashes so she calls the Nerd Herd. Lester and Jeff answer and hatch a plan. Seconds later, they arrive at the Ellie-Awesome home, fix the computer and then begin setting up to audition. Awesome, blowing his cover, blames Chuck. "Wait a minute, did you outsource your to-do list?" Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) asks. All of the sudden, Awesome doesn't look so awesome.

Back to plot A. Chuck follows the Triads to a back room where some kind of deal is being brokered. "This is way too risky," Wang says. "I'm out after this shipment." Suddenly, the Triads get a call: an unidentified trespasser has been spotted in the parking lot. Before you can say "plot twist," Morgan is captured! The Triads think the card-carrying Nerd Herd member is a spy. Oh, sweet irony! Chuck races out to the parking lot to save his friend. "He's not a spy -- he's a stalker!" Chuck explains to the Triads. "This guy is a profoundly disturbed individual." Morgan is devastated to hear such words from his friend -- even though his friend was saving his life. "At least he's still breathing," Sarah says. That's little comfort to Chuck as he watches Morgan slink away.

But Morgan isn't out of the woods just yet. Back inside the car dealership, one of the Triads finds a bug Chuck planted. The head Triad -- a woman named Smooth Lau (Jennifer Jalene) -- blames none other than Morgan. "Looks like he's more than a stalker, after all," she says. "Kill him."

The next day, Triads show up at the Buy More looking for Morgan, who decides he's going to take them all on "like a man" (having no idea who they really are, of course). Chuck isn't about to let that happen and gives his best friend a little knock-out juice disguised as a mint breath spray (thank you, clandestine government gadget guys). Chuck then attempts to wheel an unconscious Morgan out of the Buy More in a home-theater box.

But Chuck is distracted by the sight of Wang on the store's televisions. Anna's new beau is being interviewed about a car auction. Chuck has an INTERSECT MOMENT! One of the prospective buyers is the Chinese ambassador Mei Sheng (James Kiriyama-Lem). "We have to get to the auction," Chuck tells Sarah and Casey. "Triads are going to kill the Chinese ambassador!" It gets worse: Morgan is gone! Turns out the Triads discovered the home-theater box snoring and poor adult Morgan inside. Looks like Chuck's going to have to save his best friend for the third time this episode.

All parties descend on the dealership and Chuck has another INTERSECT MOMENT! A bomb has been placed in a Rolls Royce. The ambassador has just won the Rolls Royce in the auction. And Morgan is being in the trunk. "We'll kill two birds with one bomb," Smooth says. Not on my watch, Sarah decides. Gun drawn, our hottie hero runs to the back room and is immediately attacked by Smooth. Cat fight! Chuck, in the meantime, chases after the ambassador's Rolls Royce in the Nerd Herd car! As Sarah slams Smooth's face into the steering wheel of a car, Casey takes over the Nerd Herd car via remote control (thanks again, gadget dudes). The montage ends with Smooth dead and Chuck retrieving the bomb from the Rolls.

"You're risking your life!" Casey screams. Says Chuck, "No, I'm saving Morgan's!" Good buddy, that Chuck. Always willing to lend a hand. Speaking of, Chuck palms the bomb and speeds away from the scene in the Nerd Herd car. Suddenly, the car EXPLODES! Sarah gasps. Tears run down her face. Chuck is dead. The love of her life is dead! But of course he's not. Chuck, safe and sound, emerges holding the Nerd Herd car remote. The only one who didn't see that coming was Sarah. Morgan, meanwhile, sleeps like a bearded baby in the trunk -- safe again thanks to his best friend. So that about does it, right? Not exactly.

We still haven't finished with plot B. So Ellie and an apologetic Awesome enter the Buy More where the latter has set up a band audition for the wedding reception. Sure enough, Jefster has set up a stage near the Nerd Herd booth. They soon break out into a synth version of Toto's Africa. It's horrible, of course. And Awesome has no intention of letting the lame band ruin their wedding. "Let the man have his dream -- even if it is for five minutes," Awesome says. Awesome guy, that Awesome. As the employees listen to the soothing strains of Jeffster, Morgan professes his deep and abiding "like" for Anna. The two are back together.
