During an annual French storming of Maastricht reenactment, Charles Goemans, a recent recruit but vital, rich sponsor, is killed, apparently by a non-blank bullet in a period gun. He had several enemies among the fellow actors and the master of arms, holding grudges on account of his murky business. But forensics shows he was actually killed by a modern military bullet, probably by a sharpshooter from a church, where rascal Jesse, hanging out because his dad is never home, found a shell and noticed a 'scary man' that day and the next night. It all ties in with Frank's predicament, which gets in the way.
