Making fun of oneself the mostly uncreative way Warning: Spoilers
"Noah Centineo Will Do Anything to Become America's Top Heartthrob" is a pretty long title for this relatively short film. It's not a case of blink and it's gone, but this one runs for under four minutes and the director is Robert Dume, who is also one of the three writers. Another writer is Anthony DiMieri and he really has worked in all kinds of fields when it comes to movies. And finally, the third writer is Noeah Centineo himself, a rising young actor, who apparently enjoys massive success right now with teen audiences. I mus admit I am not familiar with him and looking at the outcome here, I don't really feel it is my loss. Anyway, three writers is pretty massive for such a brief film, it is like one writer per minute almost. Now, as for the plot, Centineo plays a vain version of himself who is scheduled with a photo shoot, but he just cannot get in the groove and while everybody around him is getting hectic, he is not just feeling it apparently and takes all the time he needs. Until everybody is actually gone in the evening and this is when Centineo shines all of a sudden and delivers. Too bad nobody is there anymore to witness him in the water. By the way, he has really short hair here compared to other photos I have seen him on. So yeah, this is a bit of "Episodes", but really more like "Episodes" gone wrong. I am not impressed and I am still not convinced by Centineo. Will be interesting to see if he can have a big career. One thing that bothers me here is that they were acting as if so many people are waiting outside for the shoot to get going, but all we see (except the protagonist) are the same two actors from beginning to end, although there are always two hours or so between scenes. That did not feel realistic. To me, it felt a bit like a Funny Or Die production, but truth is this was produced by Harper's Bazaar, who have the strangest collection of projects ranging from the Jane Fonda film "Klute" from almost 50 years ago to a recent Jonas Brothers music video. If they are really the same, that is. All in all, this 2020 live action short film gets a thumbs-down from me. i smiled once or twice, but even for slightly over 200 seconds only, this is not enough. Watch something else unless you are a huge Centineo fan. I don't see too much in him that would justify over 100k views in three months. Skip.
