Laughing Under the Clouds: Gaiden Part 3 (2018) is a movie I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows the westernization of the Japanese culture as they transition from samurai to more modern times. Meanwhile, similar to the previous films, the Kumou shrine still needs protection and three brothers work together in this changing environment to manage that responsibility.
This movie is codirected by Terri Doty (Baka and Test) and Tetsuya Wakano (Attack on Titan) and contains the voices of Tia Lynn Ballard (Fairy Tale), Dawn M. Bennett (My Hero Academia), Charles C. Campbell (Fullmetal Alchemist) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (Fullmetal Alchemist).
The addition of the guns into these films were surprising and a fun new element. The characters were good and I always enjoy the sibling aspects and relationships in this film. The storyline was interesting and fun to watch unfold but not as compelling as the previous two pictures.
Overall, this is an entertaining and worthwhile addition to the anime genre but not as good as Part 2 in this series. I would score this a 6/10 and recommend seeing it once.
