The movie was partly inspired by a quote from Les Brown. The full quote says: "The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream."
The last day of the shoot, Muse Watson, the star of NCIS and an alumnus from Rodney's college, was passing by and stopped to have a conversation about what was happening. He then mentioned that he was working on a project, an autobiographical film. It was a pleasure to have him visit the set.
The movie's working title was the Richest Places, as the cemetery quote from Les Brown inspired it. Throughout the development, the title changed to Unfulfilled as the central movie theme is how dangerous Unfulfilled potentials are.
Unfulfilled was written as a student project for a color correction class. During the process, the movie was brainstormed as a feature film but had to be cut down. In the future, this movie will likely hit the theatre as the feature it is supposed to be.
The accident scene was initially cut out of the short movie and was meant to be in a hospital setting. After requesting hospital locations, Rodney waited for over six weeks without any response. Coming close to losing his actors, Rodney and Gordon Gray talked about an alternative, and Gordon Gray proposed him to film the accident scene on location instead of the hospital. This curse has been a blessing because of how it has enhanced the movie. Three days later, one hospital came back to him, but he already shot the scene with a better setting.
