Michigan has never really had the death penalty and certainly not in the last hundred plus years. There are Federal prisons in Michigan and at least one has put an inmate to death, but all corrections officers shown clearly have Michigan uniforms. Multiple episodes make executions a central plot point and so this is bothersome. Otherwise a great show.
Generally, people who work in corrections don't refer to corrections officers as "guards," which is considered a disparaging term.
