- David goes from the frying pan into the fire when after refusing to sell Larry his Italian sports car it is bought by the beautiful but flirtatious Miss Zelner.
- David decides to sell his 1958 Calamari Italian sports car in order to buy a car with an automatic transmission that his wife Linda wants. (The Calamari has eight gears -- 5 forward and 3 reverse, like an octopus has eight legs). His radio co-host Larry wants to buy it, but David won't sell it to him, fearing it will ruin their friendship (he would feel obligated to fix everything that's wrong with the car if he sold it to his friend). An attractive blond single woman named Audrey Zelner answers David's newspaper ad and buys the car, much to jealous Linda's chagrin. David not only knocks $100 off the $900 price for her (which he told everyone else was firm), but also keeps getting phone calls from her about the things she finds that are wrong with the car and wants him to fix. When Audrey shows up at the radio station, a smitten Larry offers to fix the problems for her. He ends up buying the car from her, then tries to get David to stick to his original promise to fix everything for him. David points out that Larry didn't buy the car from him but from Audrey. Larry ends up with a car he hates and a girl (Audrey) he says hates him.
