The working title of this film was "Salutem," which means "safety" in Latin and is the name of Olivia's community.
While filming shots for scene 9 (when Henry is wildly hallucinating), actor Miles Tagtmeyer was so into character that when he flung himself into the cabinet in the corner of the room, he accidentally put his elbow through the cabinet's pane of glass, partially shattering it. Thankfully he was unhurt, and the take that was captured immediately beforehand is the one used in the final cut of the film.
Writer and lead actress Kate Hart is a huge fan of the show "The Walking Dead."
The cabin where all of the interior shots were filmed was originally constructed in the early 1900's for miners who were looking for precious metals in the hills of the Angeles National Forest.
An additional floor to the cabin, most of which is not shown in the film, was added in the mid 1900's and connected to the main floor via a very small staircase. Director Trevor Lecka (6'4) hit his head on the stair's tiny connecting doorway so many times during filming that he began counting the number of times it happened. He lost track somewhere in the double digits.
Most of the cast and crew stayed at the cabin overnight during filming in order to maximize filming time on location. The cabin had no cell reception, no functioning showers or baths, and very limited running water. Already feeling like they had entered their own special apocalypse, the cast and crew played horror-themed board games at night to pass the time, like Betrayal at the House on the Hill and Last Night on Earth.
