Mid-July 1943 - The army leadership has decided to wring the Russians down in a final rebellion. This means for Otto and his comrades that the fight goes on. The unit is advancing. After Otto was separated from his comrades he has to fight his way alone and tries to find his unit again. Meanwhile the Wehrmacht is stopped at Kursk and a low loader is approaching.

End of July 1943 - While the Wehrmacht is involved in fierce rearguard action in the south of the Eastern Front, the 4th Army under General Heinrici manages to hold its position in the central section of the front with only minor losses. In vain, the Red Army has been running against the buried compatriots in the so-called runway battles since the summer. Meanwhile, Otto, who is still struggling with the death of Erich, is waiting with his comrades for the onset of winter.

March 1944 - After weeks of heavy fighting in the area of the Heeresgruppe Mitte, the situation for Otto and his comrades from the 2nd Company has calmed down as far as possible. The Red Army, due to its heavy losses, has taken a break from the offensive during the taxiway battles. In the beginning joy and relief prevailed, but all too soon this gave way to boredom and the boring everyday life of the soldiers.
