A young American nurse finds herself haunted by childhood trauma, when she is employed at a remote house to care for a sinister old psychic.

Cherry Holly, a vibrant young nurse is hired by the Hallewell family to care for an infirm old man. A path of discovery changes the course of her life, and the lives of everyone around her. Forced to confront her true identity, Cherry makes a decision that will set her upon a collision course with fate, one she won't ever return from.

In the summer of 1974, Cherry Holly, a vibrant young nurse is hired by the Hallewell family to care for an infirm old man. She is taken to a remote pickup point by her two lifelong friends Sarah and Maria. They are met by the Hallewell's ward and caretaker, Dwayne, a young, attractive Haitian man, who has been waiting for Cherry. Dwayne drives Cherry to the Hallewell's decrepit mansion, several hours deep into an arid forest.

It is extremely hot inside the house and Cherry immediately begins to perspire and feel oppressed. Naomi Hallewell, a cold and calculating woman, presses Cherry on different points about her experience and life. Naomi brings Cherry to Philip's dark room. His breathing is very heavy and he stares at Cherry with blank, white eyes. Cherry is moved by his frail, deteriorating state. Naomi gives Cherry strict instructions on how to take care of Philip. She leaves the house the next day, leaving Dwayne in charge.

Over the next few days Cherry is haunted by memories of her tormented childhood. Philip psychically manipulates Cherry through her dreams. She is transported to a time, long ago, where she is seduced by Philip's younger self - a handsome and ethereal pianist. During her waking hours, Cherry continues to suffer from the heat and starts to see the figure of a strange little boy running through the house. Intrigued, she chases after him, and he leads her to make strange discoveries.

Dwayne and Cherry open up to each other. He tells her how Naomi took him in, and how loyal he is to the family. Cherry tells Dwayne she was raised in an orphanage. Her ambition is to be a dancer. Dwayne takes Cherry to the attic which was once Naomi's dance studio, but is now used for storage. They go through old Hallewell family photos and Dwayne shows Cherry a picture of Philip when he was much younger. Cherry tells Dwayne that she has been dreaming of this man. Dwayne realizes something is wrong, but doesn't say anything. Digging deeper, Cherry discovers a painting of an elegant woman who wears the same necklace as Cherry. Dwayne tells Cherry that the woman is Philip's sister who was outcast from the family. Cherry instinctually realizes that she is her grandmother, and that her being there is not a coincidence. Dwayne clears space for Cherry to dance. While she is teaching him some steps, Philip invades Dwayne's head and he pulls away from Cherry.

Over the next few days Cherry's personality begins to change. She adapts to the temperature of the house and she becomes more comfortable there. The attraction between her and Dwayne also grows stronger as her primal instincts are awoken.

Sarah and Maria arrive for a surprise visit and immediately detect an alteration in Cherry. That night a series of horrifying events are unleashed, leading Cherry on a path of discovery that forever changes the course of her life, and the lives of everyone around her. Forced to confront her true identity, Cherry makes a decision that will set her upon a collision course with fate, one she won't ever return from.
