The last refuge / oasis for vanishing nature and wild life
youAreCrazyDude13 March 2011
Yosemite National Park is one of the most visited National Parks in the United States. National Geographic goes beyond the tourist hot spots and journeys deep into the dynamic and untamed wilderness behind 12,000 square miles of awe-inspiring natural wonders few have ever seen. Known for its steep granite cliffs, impressive waterfalls and the world's largest living trees—the Giant Sequoias—this beautiful haven attracts vacationers all year round.

With more than 700,000 acres of land, this terrain is home to a host of wild creatures ranging from black bears, bobcats, foxes, snakes and a variety of bats. Discover this vast wilderness as National Geographic explores the life within the wilderness found beyond the postcard-perfect views.

Yosemite majesty dwarfed by political rhetoric

There isn't any secret to this documentary.

By using stock footage and some dynamic animation, National Geo has produced yet another propaganda film about global warming.

Global warming is mentioned continually through out this rehash of old stock footage.

There is no "secret" Yosemite. Only a global warming diatribe.

There is sparse footage of a solo tree and rock climber to hammer home the points of global warming.

Oh, for drama they added the scary nature of "The Great Flake". a sliver of rock that may fall at any moment...within the next million years.

The highlight, if there is one. is the guys caught in an electrical storm while rock climbing.

Look for other documentaries that really show the majesty of Yosemite. Better yet, visit Yosemite in person as it is a truly wonderful experience you will not forget. I have oodles of shots of Half Dome. Go to the gift shop and buy a copy of Moon rise over Half Dome, by Ansel Adams.

Only for climbers

As an experienced naturalist (birder, entomologist), hiker, and NP visitor, I found this movie to look down upon anyone who comes without the intention to say, climb El Capitan. Somehow we don't experience it to the depth of the climbers. Sorry, there is much, much, more to the park than this. I really disliked this movie. National Geographic, you can do much better and more and more inclusive than this. A real turn off.
