- Adam is found in the woods, but his befriended dog comes back with him, Joanna shoplifts earrings for her mother's present, but her mother has no time for her.
- Things look bad for Adam, who has run off into the woods, tripped and fallen, and now has a poacher and his dog standing aggressively above him. The poacher warns him to keep quiet about who he's seen. The sudden disappearance of Mr. McNab causes speculation among the Double Dare Gang. When they overhear Mrs. Maguire's conversation with Mr. Robson, the word "disappeared" confirms their belief that something weird has happened to their former Headmaster. Mr. Robson arrives in the woods and is told of Adam's disappearance, with Zoe's added comments about her having seen a wolf. On his own, Adam descends and another, more friendly dog approaches - Adam feeds it. Back at base camp, the police have arrived with sniffer dogs. Adam runs through the trees, night has fallen and it's hard to see where he's going. He runs into the poacher again and his dog, but before the poacher can do anything, the friendly dog intervenes, scaring off the poacher and his dog. Adam emerges from the woods in sight of the police marksman, with the friendly dog, and puts his arms around it, just as the police are about to shoot it. Relieved, the staff get into the coach and prepare to leave, but there's a stowaway - Adam's new friend has stowed away in the luggage compartment. Joanna borrows a tenner to buy her mother a present (claiming to have lost the earrings she bought), but when she gets to the shop, she lifts some earrings instead of paying for them. The caretaker finds Adam alone near the dustbins and has a bit of a pep talk with him. The Double Dare gang have found an application form for the role of Headmaster, and have usefully filled it in with joke entries. Mrs. Holmes catches them, and takes it off them, and finding Mr. Robson's name at the top, confronts him about his desire to be the school's head. He denies applying for the job, at least not at Grange Hill, but she shows him the evidence. He points out the frivolous nature of the entries, and having been made a fool of, she backs down. Joanna and her brother surprise their mother on her birthday when she gets home, but she's in too much of a rush as usual to pay them much attention. Hugely upset by her mother's lack of interest, Joanna heads out into the night, puts on a brave face and appears in Ray's café. Meanwhile, Adam Hawkins has a rendezvous back at school - the stray dog that followed him back from their trip to the woods is being kept there in secret, in the boiler room.—Geffers
