The led characters make plans to "meet at the gondola" at 5 p.m. From there they ride to the top then come down the mountain in inner tubes. In a ski area in the winter it is almost certainly dark by 5 p.m.

Gondola windows are clear, you can see the mountains in the background. Suddenly they are all frosted and you can no longer see through the windows.
At the beginning the main character is told she cannot park where she is because it's a pedestrian area. That's true, but to get there with deliveries or drop-offs, one has to pass through a staffed traffic control kiosk. one cannot just leisurely drive in.
