Corporal Punishment

NCIS

Edit

Factual errors

After having his nose broken by Corporal Werth, Tony is acting loopy because of the painkillers prescribed to him. Yet he is shown going out into the field and both carrying and drawing his sidearm during this time. Federal agents, and all law enforcement officers, are not allowed to be on field duty while they are under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. An agent taking narcotic painkillers for an injury would be put on restricted duty and only allowed to work out of the office (desk duty), and if for some reason they had to go into the field they would not be allowed to carry their sidearm. Narcotics can have a major impact on hand-eye coordination, judgment, impulse control and reasoning; all of which are things that make the carrying and use of a firearm extremely unwise.
In the hospital, after the escape a person can be heard calling out code red. Code red is hospital code for fire, not escape.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When DiNozzo and Gibbs are talking to Sutherland in her office, she tells DiNozzo that a device he picked up is a light emitting diode which speeds the healing process. LEDs have absolutely nothing to do with healing, and are simply used as light sources.

Correction: LED lights actually do help with healing, in the 1990's NASA began studying LED's effects in promoting wound healing in astronauts by helping cells and tissues grow. Several studies have proven that LED's configured to specific brightness levels and wavelengths can increase the rate at which wounds heal. The concentrated light energy emitted by these LED's stimulate increased blood flow and enhance the skin's healing ability by increasing the rate at which new cells form. More recent studies have also shown LED light can help muscles heal more rapidly as well.

Miscellaneous

Near the end of the show, Werth calls Gibbs "Gunny" but nowhere in the dialogue so far has Gibbs told him his rank when he served.

Errors in geography

When McGee pulls up a map indicating Cpl. Werth's past movements, a labeled arrow appears indicating Quantico Marine Base, Virginia. However, the arrow points to the middle of the Delmarva Peninsula (near Salisbury, MD), about 100 miles east of Quantico.

Character error

Gibbs gets one of the medals from DiNozzo's drawer for the Marine in the hospital. It is with others loose in the bottom drawer. Previously, Tony had them in a locked box in the drawer, where Gibbs would not have access to them. Plus, there were more now than previously.
