A nifty little game (and the price is right)
A gift for Xbox 360 owners, Aegis Wing was a seemingly basic side-scrolling space shooter released for free on the Xbox Live Arcade earlier this year. Being a thrifty gamer, I decided it was worth a shot, and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. The offline/solo play is OK, but the online experience is, surprisingly, one of the richest I've seen yet. You can connect to up to three other players (four total) and co-op the entire game. In fact, you can even combine two, three, and even four ships to create a "super-ship", if you will, which exponentially increases the power of all power-ups and makes you and your fellow "pilots" a much more intimidating and powerful force. The game also features an astoundingly rich, orchestrated soundtrack that is on par with even the top-tier production games.
Honestly, I would have happily paid for the game, as it provides hours and hours of enjoyable (if sometimes a bit repetitive) play. It's fairly simple, fun, and the price is right. Highly recommended for all sorts of gamers, from casual to hardcore (and for you achievement players, it's a very quick and easy source of achievement points).
