Interesting premise, excellent art, but struggles in the end.
dameon_green11 September 2020
Visually striking and unique premise combined with strong characters in the beginning hooks you. But in the end it falls flat as it has multiple episodes lacking substance and an ending arc that fails to live up to the first half of the series.

A second season might redeem the disappointment felt at the close of the final episode, until then in my mind it was a slightly above average supernatural anime that fought with itself over direction, depth and tone.

Pro's:
  • Excellent Animation.
  • Above average English dubbing.
  • Unusual premise and characters.
  • Great first few episodes.
  • Completed story arc.

Con's:
  • Sluggish and unfocused last half.
  • Unfulfilling and odd ending.

It was rather a good anime
bdnahian1 August 2021
This anime is quite good. At first I thought it would be boring to watch. But a friend of mine insisted on to watch it. So,I gave it a go and I found it enjoyable. Now a second season is coming soon. Really forward to watch.

Plot dragged - Mediocre show
Flalfs30 March 2020
Kyokou Suiri was extremely mediocre. The plot sounded interesting and I thought the Japanese folk lore would take a larger portion of plot, but the show tended to drag on one malicious yokai in something that should have been 1 or 2 episodes but ended up being 9. The music wasn't great either and I have nothing to say about the visuals. The personalities are one of the worst parts as there is very little depth and I feel as if an adjective was just given to each character as a personality. The character design was quite good on the main character and I wish there was more uniqueness to the other characters who came across as plain. Despite these drawbacks none of them were bad enough to lead to me not following through. Even though I was very critical of it, the experience was enjoyable enough for me to follow through. Unless you are interested in ghosts, yokai, etc. and can sit through a lot of dialogue this probably isn't the anime for you.

Good start but fell short
ktsamaniego6 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I think that the the premise for the show is super interesting and I enjoyed the main characters but the problem for me was with how much time was devoted to the steel lady nanase plot.

The first couple episodes really drew me in and the steel lady plot just didn't hold the same amount of appeal. It wasn't entirely uninteresting I think it would have worked better if it was shorter. I felt like they explained the monster of the imagination and rational fiction concepts for eons before moving on, only to spend another eternity on the solutions portion.

Even though it wasn't as good as I had hoped it to be, the final episode seemed to be pointing in a good direction so I'm looking forward to the second season.

Wall of Text- The Show.
edrodriguez-2247619 September 2023
The first few episodes of Season 1 introduce you nicely to the characters and their backstory with a nice blend of action and exposition. The main female lead has a positive quirky personality juxtaposed by the main male leads very serious and blank no nonsense one. Their "love" story has some humorous moments as well as some poignant ones.

However, those positives are mixed into a show that, almost as soon as the introductions are complete. Dives headfirst into simply being the main characters plus side character(s) dialoguing endlessly about how to solve or understand a particular mystery.

The first instance of this "Wall of Text" approach is at the lake with the water god. This concept is somewhat interesting, yet despite it's first instance still feels like it's dragging it's feet. It's main benefit over the rest of the season being that it is feels better paced than the next main plot of the Steel Lady. This is where you run face first into entire episodes of nothing but people talking together in a room about hypotheticals and uninteresting solutions. This continues on for several episodes in a row with barely anything else in-between and for only a brief time. At that point it becomes very difficult to continue to care about the story as it becomes repetitive and you'll care less due to the intentionally misleading brainstorms of the main female lead.

I suppose if supernatural mystery is your preferred genre then this show might be right up your alley. I found it far far too dull and exhausting to finish the second seasons. However, I will say Episodes 2,3, and 4 of season 2 where by far my favorite of the entire series.

Mystery
Mysterygeneration14 January 2024
In mystery novels, people typically employ every piece of information and reasoning at their disposal to uncover the truth. Rather, Kyokou Suiri fabricates a lie using all available data and reasoning.

Kurou Sakuragawa and Kotoko Iwanaga are the two main characters in the narrative. One of them is a "goddess of wisdom" for the youkai that inhabit the planet, and the other is an apparently ordinary guy who is actually something else entirely. Together, Kotoko and Kurou form a group and work to address the fears and concerns of the nearby youkai. You could also say that Kotoko clings to Kurou.

Three characters, Kotoko, Kurou, and Saki, engage with a blend of humor and paranormal themes in this anime. Kurou is simple but strong, but Kotoko is cruel and hilarious. Saki, who was formerly Kurou's ex, is brave, witty, and gorgeous. This season, there is a lot of anticipation for the show because it presents a novel take on Mystery. The manga gives greater depth and solutions for readers who are not interested in animation.

Great characters and great art, but not what was expected
calebbsimmons18 July 2020
I think the problem that some people have with the show is how different it is from what was advertised. The previews portrayed In/spectre as a horror, when it is actually just a supernatural mystery show. But even if you wanted a horror, you can't help fall in love with the lead characters and the artwork. The female lead is energetic and fun, even though you expect her to serious and relaxed. There are so many other reasons why this show was so good.

An anime most based on dialogues, nothing much interesting happens
The-Last-Sith-Lord9 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The animation and japanese dub are great, I really enjoyed the first episode, had kind "inuyasha" feelings on it, with the main charc. And her partner hunting bad deamons.. but it was just the first episode.

The rest of the anime has almost none character development, and even with the "supernatural" element on the world building, the "supernatural" is just a "decoration" on the story. The rest of the episodes are just the girl talking with someone to try to "convince some truth" about police cases of murdering until the characters who have doubt about the case have their doubts sanates. You can expect a lot of never-ending dialogues on this anime and just it.

Great multi genre anime
burgerandfries-0677031 March 2020
This show had me wondering if I'd like it after it's first episode. Im usually a huge action fan get that slice of life away from me. This one took me by surprise. While reading i always love a good romance story set in the action but you seem to rarely get romance and great action in a single anime. This one has not only great action and romance, but mystery, the supernatural, and characters that i greatly enjoy! I hope this gets a season 2 because it's a multi genre anime that needs the recognition so that more anime can be more than just fighting or slice of life. I want more mixtures!

I accidentally falling a sleep while watching this show
Tsuki_Blvck22 March 2020
I think i just didn't like story style of what this show gave to me. i already read the synopsis and i expecting something good. like action, comedy. the comedy was good and the action was nicely animated. but, the comedy is rarely appeared on this show and action of the main character (Kuro Sakuragawa) was so lame. like come on man he can do it better he is already hundred years of living and still dont know how to fight. the girl officer (Saki Yumihara) is not like police officer at all, he is too coward for anything, how she was ended up being police officer if she is too coward and not brave. that character is so annoys me. 70% of this show is full of talking and that thing is made me bored.

Ratings should be higher
riordanp14 September 2020
I'd say this is a fine anime. Without looking at the IMDb page, I would have given it an 8 or something. But having looked at the ratings, I can't let this good anime be dropped down like this. The episodes are very interesting and the mysteries are very amusing to watch. The entire concept of the show is likeable. Immortality, ghosts, eating the flesh of mermaids and what not... It would be a shame if the ratings remain this way. I recommend this anime. It will give you a feel like Sherlock Holmes's wisdom meets the horrors of the anime "Another".
