Honestly the saddest part about this episode was....
aizndemon1 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
That the swede didn't kill them at the end as he was done with revenge and killing. Look what killing only did to his brothers. A show making you feel bad for the BAD guys is rare in movies and shows. The writers did it good.

Same plot as season 1 but done soo much better.

Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure whether to bother with season 2 as season 1 was sub par but I thought ok I'll give it one more chance.

Worth it. season 2 is twice the season 1 is. Wish season 1 didn't exist and his season was the premiere season.

Episode 10 could have done with being the first episode of the next season. Really should have finished with episode 9.

Ending was predictable but overall this show has worked on all the criticisms it's received. Hoping season 3 is just as strong, if not better.

Just no more apocalypse because of Vanya (or the kid) storylines please.

Season Two Review
southdavid18 August 2020
Though l liked the first season of "Umbrella Academy" I felt that it had some issues with pacing that meant it repeated the story beats more often than it really needed to. This second season, as well as keeping all the parts that I enjoyed about that first run, manages to fix that problem too.

Leaping away from the apocalypse, Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) deposits his family in the same back alley in Dallas in the early 1960's, although unfortunately, not all in the same year. So a couple of years have passed for some of them, before they are able to come back together. Vanya (Ellen Page) is living with a family on a farm. Luther (Tom Hopper) is bare knuckle fighting for Jack Ruby. Diego (David Castaneda) has been committed for ranting about the impending death of JFK. Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) has married and is part of the civil rights movement and Klaus (Robert Sheehan), still with Ben (Justin H. Min) haunting him, has started a cult. Unfortunately, though away from the 2019 apocalypse for a while, they appear to have brought a new one with them.

Though again all the family have their own stories, the main thrust of the plot of this one is sensibly in the hands of the shows best character, or best performance anyway. Aidan Gallagher is strikingly good as number five, whose season is about desperately trying to corral his wayward family to safety, whilst staying a step ahead of The Handler (a returning Kate Walsh, who is also revelatory whenever she's on screen). The show is much better plotted this time around with a focused story about trying to avoid another apocalypse whilst investigating whether there father played a part in the Kennedy assassination. I was a little sad to lose the other worldly out-of-time aspect that the first season has, despite being set in 2019. Instead its 100% sixties period this time, though I would say is also well done.

A show that improves as it runs, there's a rarity. Let's see how they do with Season Three.

Amazing but it's just a better version of season 1.
Sherif_Ali11 August 2020
So main plot apocalypse in 10 days and we gotta stop it. More of the same like trying different solutions , the handler playing five etc. However it's a better season , more entertaining, character development is good and it has a better ending.

What a season
Dannyboi945 August 2020
Umbrella Academy season 1 was a big surprise. It was a fun superhero TV show with great characters and an interesting story. And the best thing about it, is that it didn't take itself 'too' seriously. I didn't think it possible for season 2 to top season 1, and by god it did! Season 2 was brilliant. It had everything that season 1 had, and expanded it to 11. It was funny, emotional, action packed and made the characters even better. Each character had their time to shine this season, and not once was I bored or uninterested in what I was seeing. Diego, who was my least favourite last season, is one of the best here. He along with the all-mighty Klaus make every scene their are in, better. Every main character had an improved storyline, with Vanya being my least favourite this time around. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but wasn't as engaging as the others. But did any of you guys get a Looper (the film) vibe from her storyline?

The main bad guy this season, The Handler was just as entertaning to watch as any of the heroes. Kate Walsh was brilliant in the role, and her insane, yet very child-like personallity makes her a strong contender for Homelander as one of the best supervillians in TV. Despite not having any powers. She was just a delight to watch, and I hope we see her again in season 3.

Season 2 was just brilliant, it ended on a great note, and I can't wait to see what they do next time. 9.5/10

Rushed to the Finish Line
ComradWinston4 August 2020
It seems pretty obvious that this should've been a few episodes longer. What would usually get a thoughtful bit of screen time for itself is glossed over regularly towards the end of the second season in general. So while most of the second maintains or outclasses the first season, the last few episodes are practically tripping over each other.

Do better Umbrella
constanza-nm13 August 2020
As other people has pointed out this season is basically season one but with improvements, but while some people still choose to give it a high rating I have to be honest, this season has the same issue that other Netflix's shows have, like Stranger Things the creators/producers see what works and keep doing the same thing over and over again with slight changes, because in the end they know people will comeback for the characters and the good production. Although I'm glad that they listen and actually gave us better rounded characters, the show waits to the last minute to have something truly meaningful happening, it's predictable in a lot of ways, the triplets plot it just ridiculous and unnecessary, the Handler is repetitive. I really hope if this shows continues would get something different. No more apocalypse, no more Vanya destroying the world, no more brother and siblings being plain DUMB so they can keep pushing the plot for a couple of more episodes. Do better Umbrella. They had really good potential and I do feel they failed to gave us a memorable season. It's good, but definitely not great.

WHAT AN ENDING!
Tales-ofa-Fangirl-witha-DVR13 September 2020
I had heard from so many people that season 2 was their favorite and when I started watching I still preferred season 1. But then as the season progressed and I got more into the storylines and new characters I was sold. What really sealed the deal for me was this finale. WOW! They brought so much into it and once again it was as explosive as ever. I love seeing the Umbrella Academy come together as a whole and working together to take down the "bad guy." So many twists and the last couple of minutes!!! I cannot wait to see season 3!

Great episode
arneshsengupta1 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Liked almost everything about this episode. What I didn't like though is the family spent no time grieving Ben. I get he's coming back as a different version of himself but the sweetheart lovable Ben they knew is gone forever, and it did not feel that way. At least Klaus(and Diego) who had interacted with Ben recently should have said something. I know, it's nitpicking, but after a large number of forgettable episodes them giving Vanya and Sissy more time than grieving Ben felt kind of dirty and even betrayed the twist at the end of him coming back. Great episode otherwise though, and looking forward to season 3!

It just got better and better!!!
braxtontyler11 August 2020
The first season kind of blew away to be honest. I think many of us are addicted to shows that can deliver good humour, fantastic dialogue, supernatural abilities, complicated blended families, diverse characters alongside a soundtrack that just gets you singing and dancing along.

It's hard not too feel anything but a bit empty when the show ends as it's a rollercoaster of emotions with this series and the second one honestly just got better and better.

Phenomenal finale for a phenomenal season
kiva-belt30 August 2020
I can't fault a single minute of season 2. This final episode wrapped everything up, all whilst ripping my heart out of my chest and trampling it in the dirt. I love that this show can destroy me and keep me watching because the characters are all so compelling. Amazing writing, performances, and production. CANNOT WAIT FOR SEASON 3!

Déjà vu!
stefanlubben9 August 2020
Awesome series with a great soundtrack and actors! But.. For someone who has watched the series 11.22.63 with James Franco as a lead i can't help but compare the two, because it also plays in the timeline with the kennedy assasination and the what-if it didn't happen situation. The threat of the end of the world by atomic bombs was also in the series 11.22.63. Then there is the fact that season 2 is very similar to season 1 but has improved a lot in the comedy department.

I did enjoy it a lot, but because of a lot of similarities in other series i must give a somewhat lower rating. The acting in this season did improve, because the actors were more familiar with their role and personality and gave a more natural feel to them. This led to a better performance and the story also gave each actor from the acadamy a better character development.

A decently done finale, although there are flaws.
maxglen17 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'll talk about the stuff I liked first. I really liked Lila being revealed to have been one of the miracle babies, I also liked her interactions with the rest of the Academy. The ending of this episode was also very interesting and I look forward to seeing how it continues. That being said the episode fell into some very annoying tropes at times... the whole army of commission, a group of expertly trained killers, didn't hit a single person with their barrage of stormtrooper bullets. And Harlan's inherited powers made for yet another superhero story with a blue light shooting into the sky. When is that not going to be a thing? There's also the whole fake out deaths that happen towards the end where the whole team are killed but then brought back to life by the time travelling one. This exact thing happened in Misfits' season 2 finale, which starred Umbrella's very own Klaus! (Robert Sheehan) other than the things I've mentioned this is till a very competently made episode. P.S WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THEY THINKING WITH YOUNG KLAUS' DUBBING?!

Terrible finale to an otherwise pretty good season.
EddyTheMartian0076 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After what seemed like a big improvement to the first season, which I just found to be okay, I was pretty excited to see what they would do with the finale, I wasn't really sure what they could do. The episode begins with a flashback to Ben's death, which I thought was probably the best scene in this episode. Now the umbrella academy all come together to go help Harlan because Vanya senses something is wrong with him. It's pretty nice to see the umbrella academy finally being a real family, helping each other out. They arrive to help Harlan, and here's where it starts to get bad real quick. First of all, this is such a lame ending. Harlan got powers when Vanya saved him a few episodes ago, so this is what this season built up to? Is he going to end the world or something? It just seems like a forced conflict to be honest. Whatever happened to the first episode? That was so cool, but I digress. It only gets worse, when the entire Temps Commission comes down as an army to stop them... This brings up a ton of questions as to why they send an entire army now, instead of before to stop the umbrella academy. I mean seriously, in season 1 they sent Hazel and Cha Cha, now this season they sent the Swedes. The Temp Commission is still my least favorite part of the show as they always create so many plot holes, and bring up so many questions.

Five, and Diego go talk to the handler, which doesn't seem like the smartest idea considering theres an entire army, and obviously they begin to shoot at them. Well, R.I.P. the Umbrella Academy, you had a decent run. Wait... you're telling me that even after a barrage of bullets are shot from the army, NONE hit any of the characters?! This show has had multiple stupid moments where characters seemingly dodge bullets, but this is just plain stupid. At least Diego can control bullets, but what about the rest of the characters? Diego holds the fire with his powers so that five can run back to the barn because apparently he's too "tired" to teleport. I don't think this has ever been established to be a thing till now, but just keep this in mind for later. It seems impossible for the Umbrella Academy to survive. How are they going to defeat an army?! Vanya just perfectly controls an army and kills them all in one shot. Well, that was not only convenient, but anti climactic.

PLOT TWIST! Turns out Lila has the power to replicate other people's powers. Okay... I'm not opposed to this. It is later revealed that she was one of the 43 babies birthed on October 1, 1989, which I think is great, because I thought the other kids not in the Umbrella Academy should've been explored more, but this just came out of nowhere, and should've used more development. Now Lila returns the blast vanya just did to kill the entire army, and none of the Umbrella Academy is killed. It's inconsistent to Vanya's powers that just killed the other soldiers, and its stupidly convenient that it blasted everyone into the air and they all survived. Allison literally fell on a mound of hay. At this point I was just rolling my eyes. Now Lila goes around fighting them all, I'm still questioning why she couldn't kill them all at once if she can replicate the powers, but lets ignore that. Lila replicates Allison's powers and she makes her stop breathing. R.I.P. Allison, you actually became pretty good this season. Oh wait, second convenient survival of near death experience! Turns out that Luther's love undid her powers and now she survives.

We get more stupid moments throughout, like a pile of bricks falling on Five, but him being perfectly fine, and then Lila having her foot on his throat, so Five, who has the body of a child, pushes her off with his hand. The Umbrella Academy reveal to Lila that the Handler signed off the order for Five to kill her parents. I am still questioning why she didn't come to the conclusion herself, when (if I remember correctly) the file she got showed that she signed the order. The entire time I thought she was playing the handler because they seemed to have conflict. Regardless, we get another plot hole when the handler comes and kills all of the Umbrella Academy with a machine gun... Whatever happened to their dodging bullets powers? Okay, that was a joke, but with all of them getting killed so many times, or having near death experiences, it completely kills the tension, and impact of death on the show. Also can't Luther survive gunshots? If this episode couldn't get more insanely contrived, turns out that Five survived the bullets, and at the brink of death, which should be when he is most "tired" and not being able to use his powers, he learns how to time travel correctly and goes back in time.

Everything is basically fixed, and we continue with the longest list of Deus Ex Machinas in an episode when the last Swede comes and kills the Handler. I sure hope the Handler doesn't have a metal plate in her chest... The Swede, AKA, the most underdeveloped character, which is basically a plot device, decides not to have revenge for Allison forcing him to kill his brother. This couldn't be more neatly and conveniently tied up. Vanya just takes back Harlan's powers like nothing, which makes this feel pointless, and it's over. We get a pretty nice montage of the characters in the past. There's some teases. but I'm not sure that they'll do anything with them. Finally there's a twist ending! To be honest, I really do like this twist. Because of the Umbrella Academy's insane time meddling the future is changed for the... worse? It saved me from altogether quitting the show, because apart from this truly horrid episode, I actually really enjoyed this season. Overall, this episode just felt like the writer's throwing the "coolest" things at the wall, without any attempt at making it stick. We're left with the WORST episode of the series by far, and just an all around terrible episode of TV that greatly brought down what I thought was a good season of TV in my opinion.
