"Let Trump Be Trump"
lavatch5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Guest Mark Steyn joined Tucker following President Trump's rally in Lexington, Kentucky. The rallies have been a singular feature of the Trump style that combines communing with his loyal supporters while overtly campaigning for Republicans in state and federal elections. This evening's rally took place on the evening of big election in Kentucky.

Steyn drew a phrase out of the playbook of Ronald Reagan, the quirky president with the homespun, folksy messaging. Instead of "Let Reagan Be Reagan" over thirty years ago, the clarion call today is "Let Trump Be Trump."

In the Trump style, Steyn identified a unique component of improvisation wherein he departed from his script to coin the phrase "keep your pre-existing physicians" as a companion concept to "pre-existing conditions."

Another point made by Stein is that the Democrats continue to work through carefully calculated "handlers" of the candidates, as apparent when Joe Biden was recently hustled off the stage before he could make more gaffes. By contrast, the intrepid improvisatory style of Trump likely played a role in his defeat of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

The art of improvisation may be linked in Donald Trump's mind to his experience in "the art of the deal" that requires sizing up a competitor and finding the best outcome for both parties. It might also come from his experience in reality television. Whatever the case, the Trump style has redefined the political landscape both in the way campaigns are managed and the way the nation is being governed.
