The local sheriff's deputy (Chris Mayers) believe the Bigfoot rumors are actually bears. 45 minutes from the convention is noted Bigfoot hunter Jeffrey Stephenson who filmed "The Blue Ridge Tape" of a shadowy figure moving through the woods. Despite Brian's constant whining, he gets Jeff's continued cooperation for the documentary but promising to make Jeff's story the centerpiece of the film. Jeff teaches Brian how to make Bigfoot call and demonstrates that beating a stick against a tree communicates with the unseen Bigfoot. He also collects hair samples comparing it to picking up the pieces of his life after his ex, Jen left. As they hike, Jeff points out a glyph, a way that Bigfoots communicate to one another that appears to be a random pile of sticks. As they near a hidden lake, Brian discovers what he believes is Bigfoot defecation and collects a sample. Jeff points out that find was his morning effort indicating the toilet paper hanging in the tree. To avoid another overnight Bigfoot encounter, Zach and Brian's tent is pitched amongst some vines. Their path would seem to lead to a ranger station but they only come across an abandon hippie commune. With only two hours of daylight left in the day, Jeff proposes they set up camp their while he goes to scout the area and get his bearings. He tells Brian to use the idle time to work on his anger management issues. Away from camp, Jeff tapes a confession for his YouTube show telling his viewers that he faked Brian and Zach's first night Bigfoot encounter saying he was just excited to have people to talk to about important things in his life. Just then the leaves rustle. Jeff exclaims that this could be an actual sighting of perhaps multiple Bigfoots when he is knocked out cold. At camp, Brian is irritated to be without water and that his guide has wandered off. Just then the sheriff's deputy appears and tells Brian and Zach that they are trespassing. He requests Brian put on handcuffs. When Brian refuses, two mountain men appear with guns pointed at Brian and Zach. Brian realizes they have stumbled into s much bigger story than Bigfoot. Jeff concludes that the sounds he hears in the woods are just Ma Barker and her crew smuggling heroin. Ma chooses Zach for further interrogation. Jeff gets very depressed that his life work has been for nothing, Being an Eagle scout however, he is prepared with a tool and breaks himself and Brian out of their handcuffs. They free Darren and then head off the save Zach. Jeff is now brimming with confidence and feels like a badass that he was able to free them. Between themselves and Zach is an armed guard. They assign the task of disarming the gunman to Darren after they distract the guard but Darren runs off. Brian uses the camera and attempts to interview the gunman, while Jeff sneaks up from behind and snaps the gunman's neck. Jeff frees Zach but one of Ma's boys, the Bigfoot believer, arrives pointing a gun at them. Brian makes the Bigfoot call which distracts their captor and Jeff knocks him cold. They run off into the darkness and lose their guide Jeff. Just as quickly, Zach and Brian are stooped by Ma and her boys with rifles. The boys argue about applying "Deliverance" tactics against their prisoners. Darren appears and is shot twice in the chest. Ma holds a knife to Brian's throat and tells him she is going to gut him like a fish. Just then a creature attacks the kidnappers giving Zach Jeff and Brian enough cover to get away. The creature had the opportunity to attack the reporters but went after Ma. Jeff proudly reasoned that Bigfoot hates guns. They run for what seems like hours but is actually only several yards and find an old service road that leads them back toward town.
